laker67 Posted February 8, 2010 Posted February 8, 2010 Yep, nice seeing ya'll down there. I caught some fish too. Only one lunker to hand though. Peach eggs, olive sowbugs and cased caddis worked real good for me on the smaller fish. The bigger ones really liked the rabbit hair leaches made with dubbing loops rather than palmering rabbit strips. They stole every one that I had made. "Chucking n Ducking" worked really well for me down there. Got the flies down fast. My hook set was a little strong for that 12 foot rod though. Lost several nice ones on the hook set yesterday. A 12 foot rod? Holy crap Duane! You must have been standing in the parking lot. You could get enough leverage with that to move the hatchery building. No wonder you were breaking off. Come opening day, I'll look for some fish with dislocated jaws. I opted to go to bssp on sunday. The "rude crew" was there in force. After being stepped on and crowded out several times, I left. If that type of behavior continues, I am going to sell all of my fishing gear and take up professional bowling.

Yep, my arm is a little sore today Was able to cover a lot of water the way I wanted to with the long rod though....I finally found a good use for my spey rod...chuckin and duckin and some polish nymphing. Chief Grey Bear Posted February 9, 2010 Posted February 9, 2010 Thanks again for the brat's and arms Ducky! Oh and thanks for the crawdad fly! That is just an incredible work of art!! I hate to use it but, I am going to have to try it this summer chasing some brownies with the long rod! Laker - You should have seen that rod up close! I swear that when I looked up stream, it was easy to spot Ducky. That rod has a red beacon flashing on top so aircraft wouldn't hit it! The day started out hot for me. I had my first fish on right after getting there even though didn't make it all the way to my hand. I thought oh boy this is gonna be a great day. Boy was I wrong. I went about 2 hours or so before I made another connection. With a fish that is. I then brought in 3 more before I had a nice one break me off. I brought one more in before the fish decided that I had caught all I needed for the day. I wish they would have consulted me on that desision. It was great to meet a couple of relitive forum newbies, Wounded One and Hopper. Anytime you guy's are down around the area, lets do some fishing. Murdoc Posted February 9, 2010 Posted February 9, 2010 Easy Laker67! Your making me nervous! Don't even kid about that!! I've had a really quiet C&R this year. I was unnerved by the way people treated the fish this year. Lot's of dead fish on the bottom when I was down at RR. I'm ready for Taney to calm down and get back to some night fishing!! I hear you on Taney. I've almost forgot what that place looks like. Hopefully, by april, we will have some predictable water. There was several dead lunkers at bssp a few weeks back. I wonder if Duane had his 12 footer over there? Good to hear from you Murdoc.
