hfdhoosier Posted February 9, 2010 Posted February 9, 2010 Went to Montauk for the annual Ozark Flyfishers FYAO outing. Drove through a snowstorm to get to the park. We had to eat at Sirloin Stockade in Rolla because of the all you can eat steak and seafood. Probably would have been to the park before most of the heavy snow if we hadn't been so set on the good eats. Fished Sat and Sun in the park. The river was up a bit and murky. I could not catch anything under the water, had a few on and offs with a copper john. Fish were rising for something, never could figure out exactly what. Caught fish on parachute adams, cracklebacks, grey dry midge, regular adams. Good time fishing overall. The river had a fast flow to it from being up and looked in good shape. Lots of favorable changes to the stream. One big tree had been removed from the stream and will fish great this summer, it had stagnated the flow last year and didn't fish as well. Sat night we all got together and tied flies at the Searcy building across from the lodge, great time. I did see a guy upstream fishing catch two large fish, he said he caught them on red copper johns. couldn't get them to work for me. Looks like they have the fish cleaning station done located between the cemetary and the large stone shelter. will have to check it out this summer. Planning on heading back to Montauk the week of March 21st, cant wait! Dennis Eat, Fish, Sleep,....Repeat Member: ozarkflyfishers http://www.ozarkflyfishers.org/
10pointer Posted February 9, 2010 Posted February 9, 2010 great report I too was down this weekend but only for sunday. Went down with my buddy and one of our assistant deans at school who teaches flyrod building and fly tying and casting. She had a great time in the catch and release section in the stream that runs off of the lake and through the brood stock tanks. The fish were rising usually 3 or 4 at a time and she easily caught a dozen. She had takes on every drift and had fish on on 90% of her casts. It didnt really matter what she had on, the fish were hitting parachute adams, caddis, and really any light hackle top water she threw at em. It was really great to see her have a good time because she had never fished the park before and just drove through once on a trip she was making several years ago. Ill be down Feb 27th- Mar 3rd

patfish Posted February 10, 2010 Posted February 10, 2010 I was down Sunday as well. Fished up and downstream from Tan Vat to no avail. Ended the day in the park between the dam and the bridge. Caught a couple pretty ones on the first crackleback I ever tied. Nothing huge and didn't bring a lot to hand but a fun and beautiful day.
snagged in outlet 3 Posted February 10, 2010 Posted February 10, 2010 Hey Pat Did I miss your call? I checked my email too, nothing there. Nice going on the Cback. SIO3

I'm pretty sure that bottom picture is of the same fish I caught there two weekends ago... He wasn't doing too well after the release,I'm glad to see he's still alive.
