Fishing Buddy Don House Posted February 17, 2010 Fishing Buddy Posted February 17, 2010 Slab Hunter, the guys are right on the money.. Might be just a little early for Small Jaws around the Dam as well, but I would think it is still your best chance larger population around there.. I really start to catch the smallies much better at the beginning of May, grub bite really takes off.. But you can go drag some small trick worms or craws in Natural colors "Green Pumpkin or Watermelon base colors" on a split shot rig from Kimberling to the Dam. Stickbaits will be producing some good fish as well, Mr. Babler has done a very good job of explaining those guys, go back and read all of his post and look at his pictures, very good information there. Do spend some time right around Kimberling City really good fishing in those creeks arms and main lake areas points, flats and bluff ends.. Mill Creek itself is very really good, Fischer Creek (I think that is spelled right..) It is the creek on the left right before the Kimberling City Bridge. Very good fishing back inside of that guy as well, Past the Bridge is Schooner Creek and Whites Branch all on the left side of the boat going towards point 7 and the DAM.. Get some light line and a spinning reel and a good bait caster and throw these baits you will catch that Small Mouth.. Good Fishing Don Capt. Members Slabhunter Posted February 18, 2010 Author Members Posted February 18, 2010 I greatly appreciate everyones advice and input. All this is making me lose sleep at night. I would like to meet some of you guys when we are up there. I've been looking at the past years reports and it seems they are pretty consistant every year. And watched some videos on youtube of someone on TR the guy looks like he has alot of fun making videos. But again thanks for everyones input. God Bless
Champ188 Posted February 21, 2010 Posted February 21, 2010 One other thing, Slabhunter ... if you catch a good windy day (even better if it's overcast), don't forget to throw a spinnerbait on main lake points and secondary points in the creeks. You want to fish the ones where the wind is blowing in. My personal favorite is a quarter-ounce War Eagle with double willowleaf blades (one nickel, one gold) in gold shiner, green shad, mouse, lavender shad or cotton candy skirt colors. If you catch a couple early on it and like that style of fishing, I'd put everything else up and throw it the rest of the day. Persistence is the key with spinnerbait fishing. That bait will cover tons of water and produce some great reaction strikes.
Members Slabhunter Posted February 24, 2010 Author Members Posted February 24, 2010 Got some great deals on some lucky craft jerkbaits at the green country tackle show. I bought some lucky craft jerkbaits for $5 in table rock shad 100dd and so on. They are usually $16 at the store. So I hope they work if not they were worth the price anyway. I wasn't about to pay $16 for one lure. Do you think these will work?
