It was the law that was, then opposed, and now back into law. As of Feb. 22, 2010, you can have loaded firearms in National Forest Lands. Of course there are limitations, buildings, meeting areas, any place where Federal Workers gather, etc.

Who would have thunk that this would have passed in the new Regime? Of course, it was attached to the Credit Card Company Reform Bill.

It's called a "Trade Off", sometimes things like this happen in order to get the really IMPORTANT problems taken care of. It really doesn't matter to me if someone wants to carry a gun in those places. If it works for you,I'm glad to hear it.

If fishing was easy it would be called catching.

Well said, Buzz.

I hope everyone feels safe now with their 44s strapped to them. I've never been in a situation in a NP when I felt I needed a firearm. I am neither supportive nor opposed to the decision, but I have to say I don't feel any safer knowing any nutjob I encounter out there could be legally carrying a weapon. I don't trust guys who think they are Rambo.

Oh, come on Eric. I think it makes sense to be able to settle disagreements, quickly and cleanly, without having to resort to reasoned discussion. Now that I think of it, I wish they would have passed a law requiring all congressmen to pack heat in the chamber.

Hey guys

It has always been legal to have loaded weapons on National forest lands.

We have no National Parks in MO. we do have areas and buldings administersd by the Park service.

On the ONSR it has always been legal to open carry while hiking or hunting. Concealed carry is legal now in a canoe or while wading9 If you have an endorsment) the river. This new law will allow you to have a loaded firearm in your vehicle or boat now and ccw anywhere but buildings.

This will allow the law abiding citizen to legally carry in those locations. In my opinion the crazies and Rambo's would have been carrying if the law allowed it or not. Alot of the multiple shootings we have had would have been limited to the number of casualties if law abiding citizens could have returned fire. I am stuck here in Illinois (State of Chicago) where there is no carry law at all. Glad to hear of the new law change.

Hey hoosier,

Isn't that the same city that they decided to not test for the Police applicants so they can get more um, people into the police ranks. Then all the packing home boys can carry legally!! <_<

That would be the place Britts! lol

I hope Illinois will wise up sooner than later and allow good people to protect themselves. I might just have to move to Missouri.

You never know when you are gonna be placed in a situation where your life is threatened. IMO it is better to have the tools with you to get out of the situation favorably. Most of the time the other person pulling the gun on you will not be carrying it legally. It would make them think a little longer about pulling a gun if they were unsure how many of us might have a gun also.

ONSR is Federal Land and concealed carry was not allowed. Signs went up all around the Current River parking lots when CCW passed stating that no loaded guns allowed on the stream or parking lots. Hunting has been allowed, but only so many yards away from the river, campgrounds, and parking lots. If you were pressed, openly carrying a handgun in the ONSR while fishing could have drawn you a ticket.

Loaded firearms of any type were prohibited in wetlands managed by Federal Fish and Game in places like Mingo Wildlife Refuge. You could not even have one in the vehicle. Guns had to be cased and unloaded.

I don't think you will see Rambo out there, most will be carrying CONCEALED, which means out of sight. You will never know it.

I suppose that most of you have not run across a Meth Lab, Drugged up or Drunken people that want to cause you harm, Feral Dogs, Bears, Mountain Lions, escaped convicts, your truck getting broke into, or someone harrassing your wife at the access when you return to your truck. In my travels, I have come across most of the above except for a Mountain Lion. A handgun has foiled a robbery, changed a few individuals minds about harrassing my wife, killed 2 dogs and who knows what else. My handgun has alway been openly carried, its hard to say how many times it changed the outcome of the persons I have met in parking lots, in the woods, or on the river. I have found meth labs, seen some stashing drugs while Conservation agents were checking for violations, and met alot of drunken, obnoxious people. But for the most part, I carry to have a signaling device if I get hurt while fishing alone. A 22 pistol is great, you can carry 100 rounds of ammo and have something that gets peoples attention if you need to be found.

Keep plugging away over there in Illinois, you may get a carry permit soon. The CCW guys are making good progress in your state too.
