TroutRinger Posted March 1, 2010 Posted March 1, 2010 I am going to Taney for the first time next Thursday and have a few questions: -I've checked out the generation schedule but don't know what to look for and what numbers are ideal? I'll be wading. -Is the Hatchery access my best bet? -Also, are those rubber leg jigs from Maramec Springs legal above fall creek. I know there is rubber in them but I remember hearing that they were legal in the fly section of Bennett? Are they actually legal in Zone 1 in Bennett? -What would you recommend to catch some bigger fish? -I was thinking about crankbaits or jerkbaits to go after bigger fish. Can I get away with 4 or 6lb fluorocarbon if I do so? Any other tips or things I need to know would be great. Thanks "Of all the liars among mankind, the fisherman is the most trustworthy." Brian K. Shaffer Posted March 2, 2010 Posted March 2, 2010 I can't say whether or not the rubber legs would be considered legal or not without a picture of the jig in question. Your fluorocarbon should be 6-8lb in 4 units I think.... just so you can be on the safer side of not losing lures. Jig and float works rather well... fished inbetween outlets 1 and 2. Try them crankbaits but be careful not to hang up. The outlets 1 2 and 3 are your best bets for locating fish. Do not be afraid to try the entire other side of the river too. good luck, Brian Just once I wish a trout would wink at me! ozarkflyfisher@gmail.com I'm the guy wearing the same Simms longbilled hat for 10 years now.
Root Admin Phil Lilley Posted March 2, 2010 Root Admin Posted March 2, 2010 I am going to Taney for the first time next Thursday and have a few questions: First, alot of your questions have already been discussed on the forum and covered in articles here. You might go through them and see what you can pick up. -I've checked out the generation schedule but don't know what to look for and what numbers are ideal? I'll be wading. We just talked about this not long ago. One unit equals 55 megawatts. We have 4 units. If you're wading only, you're pretty much limited to fishing close to the outlets and alittle along the edges. -Is the Hatchery access my best bet? Depends on how much water is running. -Also, are those rubber leg jigs from Maramec Springs legal above fall creek. I know there is rubber in them but I remember hearing that they were legal in the fly section of Bennett? Are they actually legal in Zone 1 in Bennett? Yes they are fine as long as they are incorporated in the building of a fly. -What would you recommend to catch some bigger fish? Bigger flies. Articulated streamers using sink tip but again, depends on how much water is running. -I was thinking about crankbaits or jerkbaits to go after bigger fish. Can I get away with 4 or 6lb fluorocarbon if I do so? Any other tips or things I need to know would be great. Thanks Depends on the lure. The bigger the lure the larger the line size.
Gavin Posted March 2, 2010 Posted March 2, 2010 Have a back up plan if the water is on...Roaring River is about an hour away.
Members midgefisher Posted March 3, 2010 Members Posted March 3, 2010 Good advice from Brian and Phil and a good idea on the back up choice. cheers
TroutRinger Posted March 4, 2010 Author Posted March 4, 2010 Thanks guys. As for a backup, are there some public accesses down stream where we could fish from a dock or the bank? I remember when I was about 10 we did that but I'm pretty sure those docks are condos or stores or something now. "Of all the liars among mankind, the fisherman is the most trustworthy."
