Members chief0902 Posted March 14, 2010 Members Posted March 14, 2010 I've got a 1650 xpress with a 60hp merc on it that I hunt and fish out of. I'm wanting to buy a jet lower and swap it out with the prop lower in the summer so I can fish some of my favorite rivers. I'm wanting to keep it simple as possible, thought about adding a Jackplate so I could just swap the lowers and adjust motor height acordingly? Just trying to figure the best way possible to swap this from a hunting/river fishing boat year after year. Any you river rats got any suggestions?

Kicknbass Posted March 16, 2010 Posted March 16, 2010 Google Jetdoctor and call David at Ernies sales in Ellington. He can sell you the pump, and will likely let you pick his brain on the conversion. I believe, that it is more difficult that just changing the Lower Unit. There are linkages that operate differently between the two, and I believe a transom lift will be required on the motor when the pump is installed. Good luck. grizwilson Posted March 16, 2010 Posted March 16, 2010 I would also suggest Ernies. It does not take long to swap units. The only difference on my is the prop motor was built with shift in handle and did not have the manual shift lever on the side of the motor, that is what the jet attaches to for fwd and reverse, but on mine there was a plug and I was able to add a shift lever. I have both units complete with water pump assembly and can change them in about 30 min. I like to take the jet down onece a year and adjust. It does require about 5" lift, the problem for me with jack plates is weight on the hydr. http://www.jetdoctor.net/index.php Have another info spot will try to post later. g “If a cluttered desk is a sign, of a cluttered mind, of what then, is an empty desk a sign?”- Albert Einstein
Members chief0902 Posted March 17, 2010 Author Members Posted March 17, 2010 thanks for the info, i've found some manual plates that only weigh about 20lbs. i talked to one guy who said he had aspecial jackplate that somehow raised motor while keeping the motor close to the back of the boat? Anyway still doing some research
