Are you using western cedar? What is the darker colored wood. I built one in 1995. It took about 100 hrs from start to finish. I use to have two books with several different designs and patterns for the stages. Someone borrowed the books and never returned them. I've been wanting to do a kayak. Might do one when I return from Alaska this fall.

Looking real good! Nice job and you will be sitting on the water in style for sure!

Wow very nice. I built a plywood canoe, and want to get into a strip build like this, with lots of brightwork. What kind of epoxy do you use? and what do you use to spread it when wetting out the fiberglass?

I use 1 X clear white pine ripped down to 1/4" then run trough a router table to put a bead and cove on the strips, with red cedar accents, the epoxy is 50/50 system much cheaper than some of the other popular brands, I used it on my 16' and I dont shy away from the rocks and it has held up very well, I used 6 oz. fiberglass cloth. I wet it out with a set of body putty squeegies from auto zone, they are exactly what you would buy from epoxy supplier but much cheaper.
