Got out for an afternoon of fishing after the Easter dinner. Saw 66.2 degree water up Cricket with some nice fish coming from the shallows on warts and blades. Worked my way up lake and the fishing was still good. Can still catch them on channel banks and points on the grub. Stick bite was also working on the windy banks which were not hard to find.

I've heard several reports of good fish being caught in that area the last few days. With the warmer water temps that may be where the bite is! Did you fish below the Long Creek bridge at all? Just wondering how the bite was in the clearer water.

Thanks for the report.

The bite is definitly on up Long Creek. Talked to a buddy today and he said he did very well up there.

Went down at the last minute this week. Got to fish about 2 hours Thursday night, 6 on Friday, and about 3 1/2 before heading home on Saturday. Spent most of my time in Long Creek. I didn't fish on the main lake much - instead went to the back halves of the creeks and fished channel swings. Caught a lot of aggressive Kentucky's, mostly on spinnerbaits (though also on a Wiggle Wart and craw tubes).

I did catch a 5 pound large mouth on Thursday night on a ledge in about 10' of water. Hit an Omega Jig (only fish on a jig the whole trip). Did manage to catch a couple of fat Kentucky's as well on the trip (spinnerbaits on the same ledge, on a flat secondary point, and a football jig in 16' of water on a main lake point).

Water temps were anywhere from 50 to 56. Put in all three days at the State Park where the water was clear. Ran down to the state line Saturday and had about 6" of visibility (after Friday afternoon's rain). The water in Big Cedar was brown Thursday but had cleared a lot by Saturday morning.

This was only the second time I've been on Table Rock and had never fished anything but Beardsley in this arm. Ended up doing a lot of running around checking spots. There were a lot of boats up Long Creek Saturday morning.

You had all these patterns working on a late afternoon bite? Man If I were catching fish like that on the blade and the wart, I don't believe I would have time to have went thru all those baits. Probably if I were catching them like that on a blade I would not have even picked up the wart, let alone a grub and a stickbait. I went to the back of Cricket yesterday afternoon, and only saw 61 degree water. My gauge might be off, but there were 3 of us and all had surface temps in long creek, from 54 to a high of 61.

Most of us guide types thought we had good days with 15 to 25 fish in 8 hrs. in the same area you were fishing, with a keeper or two thrown in. Lots of purssure and not a ton of bites.

We had 17 fish with 4 keepers and were glad to have them. I had a very good fisherman.

Thanks for the info.

Good Luck

Sure be glad when the CPA derby on Beaver next weekend is done with and I can slide up the road to TR and get in on some of that. I'm ready for some of that wart-blade-stick-grub "throw anything you want" action. I'm having to work all dang day to piece together a decent limit. Easy pickins sounds mighty inviting. B)

Hey Champ,

Was down your way on Beaver Saturday, boy that river water is pretty, tan and warm just the way I like it. Know what you mean about working for a limit, had to go through about 10 shrts for every keeper. By the way, what are you doing to make those fish so mad? Can't remember the last time I had 3 lb fish pull as hard as they did on Saturday. Looks like it shaping up to be a good weekend for somebody that knows how to throw a spinnerbait....... know anyone?????

Good luck this w/e,

EP

We fished the long creek area saturday. Found from 53-58 water. We worked really hard from 730 to 330 to get a limit of keepers. We fished the grub and wiggle wart, I tried a blade and a jig. My fishing partner and I caught 6 or 7 whites lost track. We caught a lot of shorts to get our limit ended day with 6 keepers total. We fished the main lake area and went down as far the island. Lots of traffic. Had a great day on the water. My partner was a rookie to bass fishing, only the 3rd time he bass fished. It was a fun watching him get excited even when I caught a fish. I think I have created a monster. Thanks to all the guys with reports and for their help. Smoke colored grub, red wiggle warts

As for the water temp I pulled into Cricket Creek and went towards the back and started fishing at the gravel launch on the left and bladed my way back out. Your right Bill, both my units were probably off on the temp. Sorry to make you "guide types" look bad. I will try to tone down my reports from now on.

Never mind those big green sunfish - are you guys seeing anyone catching crappie on the Long Creek arm? They oughta be, it's time - and I've got a trip there planned for Thursday.

OK, I'll throw a bass rod in - just in case the crappie aren't biting.
