Fishslayer88 Posted February 26, 2012 Posted February 26, 2012 there is a ramp at mcCord but it is closed down, and y bridge is about 3.5-4 miles above blunks. Taylors is about 1 mi give or take a little up river from blunks if you have a 4x4 you can drive the trails up to taylors but if you do that watch the holes some are sticky. Im gonna go fish in the morning idk if i will make my way up to blunks though i will probably go down stream. and there really isn't much current at blunks the only thing that will be a problem for a kayak is bass boats rocking you around, but i havent been hearing many boats yet this year
Jack Jones Posted February 26, 2012 Posted February 26, 2012 Thanks for the directions. Sadly, I don't have a 4x4. When I was there, I was deeply aware of the limitations of my Ford Focus in such situations. I did see a jon boat flying through yesterday, which is what got me thinking about whether or not to kayak there. I'd like to think that most of the boaters wouldn't be total hosers if they saw a kayak, but you never know...... Fishslayer88 Posted February 26, 2012 Posted February 26, 2012 no i know, i live on that stretch of river and fish out of my canoe a lot.. sometimes it seems like people try to swamp your boat.. its not to bad though you just gotta watch out for DB's and point your nose into the wake
ollie Posted February 27, 2012 Posted February 27, 2012 Ok, finally got down to Blunks yesterday morning. One word says it all. S.K.U.N.K.E.D. Not even a bite! I haven't had that bad day of fishing in a looooong time. I don't even think I have been skunked in a long time. I didn't even see anything swimming around in the clearer water. I found the place easy enough and it was only about an hour from my house in Neosho, but not sure I will make the trip again after that. We kayaked down to McCord Bend where we found the other boats that luanched out of Blunks and they weren't doing any better. A couple of them were only out there an hour and they left as well. Tough day is all I can say. "you can always beat the keeper, but you can never beat the post" There are only three things in life that are certain : death, taxes, and the wind blowing at Capps Creek!
duckydoty Posted February 27, 2012 Posted February 27, 2012 Sorry to hear that Ollie. Still early yet and that cold front probably pushed them scouts back down. Fishslayer88 Posted February 28, 2012 Posted February 28, 2012 they are really slow right now you cant even tell they are biting hardly the only way i was getting anything is by dragging a white slider along the bottom and when i could feel just a little bump i would slack my line and let them take off with it, got 4 more doing the same thing this evening.. but it is still pretty early in the season give it a few more weeks.
