Well went out today on the rock, lost my fish, could not find them anywhere, well I found them... Not going to say where, but it is Main Lake in Long Creek, water temp was 61 degrees... Found a 50 Yard chunk of bank just littered with new beds, and with all of this moss they really stand out.. Fish cruising everywhere, BIG ones to boot.. Not locked on but in a day or so they will be.. Seen three groups of two doing the dirty dance already. Mr. Babler was right when it is time it is time!!

Back to a basic report, fishing is tuff around the DAM area, still catching a few but still slow with very few keepers.. Stickbaits and the Turd Worm worked the best.. Still working on fish staging on the points in the creeks.. Slow is the Key!!!

Good Fishing!!

Man you aren't kidding about it being tough in the dam area. Been here since Sunday and have caught 4 short spots and my wife caught one nice white bass. I thought we had scheduled the perfect week to come down but these fish just aren't cooperating. I've pretty much thrown everything but a jerkbait because I figured the water was already too warm but after reading your report I'm gonna tie on a vision 110 tomorrow and see what happens.

thanks for the report.`

I found beds up in the James on Friday.

The females wouldn't bite but had the same mossy stuff. I assumed the spawn was in process. Only caught a couple out of a dozen skittish fat girls. Went back on Monday and the bank was stripped clean.

Go figure.

We saw spawners in both Big Creek and Wolf Pen last weekend but they weren't locked in.The bite really changed from Thursday to Saturday. We caught 50 fish on Jerkbaits in the Big Creek area on Thursday, but when we returned on Saturday, could only catch one keeper on a Scrounger swim jig and only a couple of short fish on the jerk baits.

I was out today as well. Looked for you Don, but did not see ya. Found 66 degree water and banks loaded with beds in Long Creek area around the MO/AR border. I played with them all day. All fish caught were Spots.

Aunts creek the 14. Tried early this am with one short on the stick. haven't been to Baxter in a long time, so motored over that way water temp was 57 ouch,no luck at all.water at Aunts was right 66 this moring. Went back to aunts, got in to them with the stick.Bass on the beds in lots of places. Saw one L of a female at least 6 or 7#, what a pig,the male was at least 3.But all I could get was 2 keepers just touching 15 inches and probably 12 or so shorts all on the stick.

Snakem Out.

Sounds like a lake wide trend. Any guesses as to whether these are early fish or part of the first big wave?

Have to admit, sitting in KS and re-spooling line tonight, I am rooting for a cold front to slow things a bit until I make it down on Tuesday.

If temps are actually pushing the mid 60 deg mark, where is the spook/fin bite?

First wave as usual on the banks now, but they will still be going till the 1st. of June, they always are and always have been in the past.

With 3 Black Bass species here, the spawn is not a week and done thing. Nature takes care of her own, and does not usually put all her "Eggs, in one Basket."

Last week of May there will be deep spawn K's all over the Baxter to Big M area, Bill Anderson told me once for every shallow bed you see, there are 50 deeper beds you don't. That is why MDC has never really been overly concerned about sight fishing beds. Bill has told me the beds you see are but a miniscule ammount of the total beds on the lake. With the water clarity we have so far this year, those fish will spawn out to 20 to 25 feet in May, no problem.

It is just getting started, so enjoy the ride.

Curious...anyone else find the earliest fish tend to run a little bigger? Especially blacks.

I don't know about on TR but here in CA that seems to be the case.
