jeb Posted April 21, 2010 Posted April 21, 2010 I caught this thing this afternoon. Never seen one before, but assuming it's a rough fish, like a carp? darn thing jumped on a jig and trailer on a rock wall. Caught a few NICE fish fishing the jig today, BTW. I was fishing rocky, windy points for them. They also hit top water plugs in the same place later this evening. Of course, almost anything works right now! John B 08 Skeeter SL210, 225F Yamaha
eric1978 Posted April 21, 2010 Posted April 21, 2010 Bet he fought like hell for about 30 seconds, then just flat gave up, right?
jeb Posted April 21, 2010 Author Posted April 21, 2010 Yep, that's correct. Good tussle, but short lived. I could see it was not a bass pretty much right away, so all I cared about was getting my lure back. I did not keep it. John B 08 Skeeter SL210, 225F Yamaha
Ham Posted April 21, 2010 Posted April 21, 2010 Most of the gaspergoo I have caught have pulled pretty well. My Dad caught an 18.8 pound goo on a crankbait wuith standard medium bass gear that really tested his tackle. The brief hard pull sounds more like a goggle eye than a goo to me. taxidermist Posted April 21, 2010 Posted April 21, 2010 Some of the best fish to eat! they eat everything a bass does.
Donna G Posted May 6, 2010 Posted May 6, 2010 Unfortunately, I am well acquainted with drum. My hubby (Champ188) calls me Drum Queen. I usually catch one or two everywhere we go while bass fishing. I think I've caught them on just about every bait possible except a top water. This one came on a T-rig worm, but have caught them on a 2.5 squarebill, as well. They are fun for a minute when you think you've hung a big bass, then they are dead weight. Used to tie up under the bridges at Cedar Creek in Texas at night pretty much fishing for anything swimming. It was an odd sound in the blackness listening to the drum. First time I hauled one in at night (and had never seen one before) I about jumped out of the boat. Those gaspergoo have creepy looking people eyes to me.
