Members stock jockey Posted May 1, 2010 Members Posted May 1, 2010 I wanted to get some feedback from you all. I have been fishing for about four years now. I have learned many different ways to catch bass. My biggest struggle is to feel the bite with the jig and pig. I am in the market for a rod that will give me the best feel. Not really sure what to buy. So I thought I would open a topic to get some feedback. Thanks, David
Gone Fishing Posted May 1, 2010 Posted May 1, 2010 Hard to go wrong with a Falcon Eakins rod for the jig. I also use it for many other things to. It will help alot if you use a quality Flurocarbon line like Seagur.
jeb Posted May 1, 2010 Posted May 1, 2010 Are you pitching/flipping, or just casting, or both? Baitcaster or spinning? John B 08 Skeeter SL210, 225F Yamaha
RSBreth Posted May 1, 2010 Posted May 1, 2010 No matter which rod you choose. you'll have better "feel" with Fluorocarbon, or even better, superline (fused like Fireline, or braided like PowerPro) with a fluorocarbon leader. I use several different rods for fishing jigs, everything from spinning for skipping smaller jigs under docks, to a 7'4" casting rod for football jigs. No one rod can effectively fish every type of jig that works on Table Rock.
Bman Posted May 1, 2010 Posted May 1, 2010 I just picked up a Falcon Eakins Jig Special Lowrider XG rod at Denny Dennis in Fenton for 20% off!!!!! All fishing gear 20% off ending today!!! The only good line is a tight line
Members stock jockey Posted May 2, 2010 Author Members Posted May 2, 2010 I am looking for a casting rod that will be best for a 3/8 or 1/2 jig and pig. I use 8# or 10# fluro with my casting rods. (I use mono for zara spooks) Thanks for all the input. David
Members stock jockey Posted May 2, 2010 Author Members Posted May 2, 2010 What about the falcon bucoo jig rod.
Ham Posted May 2, 2010 Posted May 2, 2010 I use 8# or 10# fluro with my casting rods. Why so light on the fluro? Get the Eakins Jig Rod and don't look back. I have it in the Cara version, but the Lowrider version would be nice as well. Every Saint has a past, every Sinner has a future. On Instagram @hamneedstofish
jeb Posted May 2, 2010 Posted May 2, 2010 I guess I should've asked what your price point is, too. I've only used Kislter LTA and Loomis GLX rods for heavier jigs like that in this area. I prefer the Loomis BCR803 GLX for casting them, although my Loomis BCFR863 GLX flipping stick works very well for casting, too. I'm not as big a fan of my Kislter. It just is not as sensitive. I swear you can feel fish breathing on your lure with the GLX's. John B 08 Skeeter SL210, 225F Yamaha
Bill Babler Posted May 2, 2010 Posted May 2, 2010 For fishing that particular line size, I would without a doubt fish a Falcon T7Cara CC-5-1610-S The rod is a 6'10" split grip finess jig special. It is great for pitching docks and dragging up to 1/2 oz FBJ's. It is light as a feather and fast as lightening. I also swim a redfin on it using 12 to 15 pound maxi. It will throw the fin a mile. I like a shorter rod or a spook. Using up to 14 pound test flurocarbon it works great on the jig. Most times we are either fishing 10 or 12 pound test with it depending. It also throws the smaller swimbaits very nicely. These rods were $199.00 but Falcon had a price reduction to $179.00 http://whiteriveroutfitters.com http://whiteriverlodgebb.com
