creek wader Posted May 6, 2010 Posted May 6, 2010 Poker, I hear you. I went through the same thing as you last year. I received a message very similar to the one you received (it wasn't from Chief). Now, instead of mentioning the name of the stream I simply say "Ozark stream". I've made it easy on myself and everyone concerned. .... good luck ...wader wader

Well, Maybe I did back down. I just didn't want to ruffle any feathers, most of the people that have read my previous posts, know where I fish. I just try to keep the peace. If anyone is interested in any info, I'm always willing to give it out, if they message me. wader
ollie Posted May 6, 2010 Posted May 6, 2010 I think Chief was only trying to say be discreet in what you post when it comes to smaller streams. That's all. Period. Although I know he can defend himself. That is why there is a PM feature so you can be descreet. If you check my fishing reports I am very vague about where I am fishing for that reason. You don't need to give out the access points if you give other important information like lures, conditions, water temps, etc. Rubicon31 Go out and do your own research on the streams like the rest of us have since we are all idiots. I don't know you or some of the others on here from Jack. I'm not about to give out that kind of info on the internet for everyone to see. Get real. "you can always beat the keeper, but you can never beat the post" There are only three things in life that are certain : death, taxes, and the wind blowing at Capps Creek!

I received a message very similar to the one you received (it wasn't from Chief). I also got a PM from someone about this very thing. I deleted the whole post. In my mind it was the right thing to do. why did you back down and conform to a few idiots on this forum? last time i checked these streams aren't owned by any one individual. so post it up. i want details and access points of where you fished, so i can get out and enjoy the wonderful resources we have. chief if you don't want people fishing your honey holes buy a nice piece of land with a pond and build some fences. don't try and bully people into not sharing with others their great day on the water. chances are, information has been shared with you in the past. Back down from a few idiots? Great to make friends that may have shared some of that info you obvioulsy need via a PM due to the fact you are incapable of doing any research on your own. Fat chance getting it from me. Bullying? There was nothing even remotly close to bullying. I offered a "friendly suggestion". I never said don't post a report. like Ollie stated, all I was trying to say was ease up on the exact location. But hey post the GPS coordinates for all I care. But don't start crying when it starts looking like an extension of the Elk during the summer. BTW, I see you have been a part of this forum since 2006. Yet you have made less than 30 post? Where are all of your reports? We want details? We want access points? Members poker fisherman Posted May 6, 2010 Author Members Posted May 6, 2010 SOME CLARITY - 1. I do not want any association with the guy calling these other folks idiots. Especially the guys that are the most frequent contributors to the public fishing spots in this area (Hickory, Shoal, Indian, Elk, Sugars, etc) - anyone who frequents this forum knows who ya'll are. This is not the point of view I was attempting to get across. Chances are if we were all in the same room, we'd have the same views. They are just interpreted differently in print on a internet message board, than they would be man to man, with a friendly handshake. 2. Chief I realize your were simply offering a suggestion, and in no way felt bullied - thus I didn't feel the need to tell the world it was your PM and maintain your anonymynity. I simply disagree and can't see the point of even having a forum like this if your not even going to mention the name of the stream your fishing. Like I said earlier, its nice to share information and each person can choose to be as discreet as they wish in the details of the report. I do agree somewhat with you though - I'm not going to report exactly where I was fishing at, and keep the details pretty general. Yet give enough detail so that it is a "real" report of what the day was like, yet vague enough that its not replicable. Just enough to help someone else out. 3. The entire premise of my earlier post was missed entirely, mainly by one individual. But nonetheless, its discouraging to see fellow outdoorsman arguing over such petty things. Like I said, we are supposed to be on the same stinkin' side.
drew03cmc Posted May 16, 2010 Posted May 16, 2010 Poker, what everyone is saying is that in a fragile ecosystem like the smaller (preferred to remain unnamed) creeks that you and I both fish down there, the smallmouth are a precious commodity that we have to actively protect. When I come across bedding bass in a stream, whether it is the Blue River near Kansas City, the Wakarusa near Lawrence or Shoal Creek near Neosho, I WILL NOT fish those fish. I don't care if they are spots, largemouths or brownies. It will not happen. Do not mention where you are at on the smaller flows as they are susceptible to fishing pressure far more than larger streams. On Indian Creek, those smallmouth are not your average Missouri smallmouth. I don't know if you are aware of this, but since you presented yourself as a degreed and certified wildlife biologist, I would assume you would know what I am talking about. If not, just say so and we can school you on the subject. I would appreciate you taking care of these fish the way we have been proposing to do so on this site. Treat them as a natural treasure and promote the growth of the population by not targeting them on the beds. Andy
Members poker fisherman Posted May 17, 2010 Author Members Posted May 17, 2010 Drew, thanks for your two cents, but I already understood what some of the other posters were saying. I simply disagree with some of the thoughts, or at least the way they were presented on this board. I do not believe for one second that mentioning the name of the stream a person is fishing is going to "ruin the resource." I could probably upload a google map of the exact spots I am catching fish and the fishing pressure would remain more or less unchanged, because most folks aren't going to wade a mile or more to catch fish. Anyone that is willing to, is probably going to have a solid set of conservation ethics. I fish Indian more than anywhere else because I live just a few miles from the stream. And in the 2 years I've lived here I have NOT ONCE seen a single other soul fishing the creek. I've seen a few floaters but no one fishing (however I'm POSITIVE there are others that fish it). I think its pretty safe to assume that fishing pressure is low from Lanagan upstream. With that said I would love to see some folks out there fishing. I've met very few fisherman that don't want to take care of and promote the resource they love. I just don't believe that maintaining the secrecy of fishing holes does anything to promote the conservation of resources.
OzarksRiverman Posted May 17, 2010 Posted May 17, 2010 My cousin's neighbor knows a guy that might be coming up next Tuesday and Wednesday to fish either Indian Creek or Big Sugar. If the water is back down by then... (do y'all think it will be?) Anyways, whats the best lures to bring? gitzits? Roostertails? Swimmin' Minnow?
ColdWaterFshr Posted May 17, 2010 Posted May 17, 2010 Was thinking of hitting the Finley or James with some rowdy buds from Tulsa and Springfield next weekend, but now this Indian Creek is on my filet-dar. Whats the minimum length limit and/or do agents frequent the creek? And is there any good spots to drive up or into the creek and party like its 1999?
