Members N Wolf Posted July 28, 2010 Members Posted July 28, 2010 I personally have the TFO pro 4wt and love it. The warranty is awsome. One thing that you may want to do with a TFO is bend the tip top open a little at its base. It V's just perfectlly to pinch the line so that you cant shoot line on the back cast. After I fixed this on mine it became my favorite rod. It's strange how it feels to have a rod you dont have to worry about breaking. As for the finesse, I wont argue against it either. I have a 3wt that I use for trout on small streams and bluegill. Not only is it very precise but a little bluegill can have his way with you on that rod. By the way, dont use that rod at a trout park. You have no stopping power and you will foul every other line in the pool. Aparently people dont think its funny.

Paola Cat Posted August 8, 2010 Posted August 8, 2010 If your a st croix fan, why not try the avid? It has a nice medium action, made in USA, cheaper price tag than the Ultra. Ultras are on sale at Cabelas right now. The price is almost the same as the MSRP on the Avid. Cheers. PC
Ham Posted August 9, 2010 Author Posted August 9, 2010 Thanks PC. I have a 9' 4 piece 4 weight ordered. I was able to use a Cabela's coupon that runs out on 8-10-10 and cover the shipping as well. I have the reel and the line all ready to go so I should get to try it out this time next week. Every Saint has a past, every Sinner has a future. On Instagram @hamneedstofish
Trout Commander Posted August 9, 2010 Posted August 9, 2010 My ordered TFO Pro 4 wt is awaiting my pickup this evening. At Bass Pro you can combo the Sig ($109) and Pro ($149) for $169 with a Hobbs creek reel and line setup. I have spent most of my money on fly fishing and beer. The rest I just wasted. vanven Posted August 9, 2010 Posted August 9, 2010 I have been drooling over a 4wt Sage ZXL or a Scott BIIX. I want something lighter than my Z-Axis for bright, sunny, low water days when the odds of hooking a monster are almost impossible. My Zed fishes more like a 6 wt and something lighter and slower for small flies and nymphing would be a lot of fun. -Jerod
Ham Posted August 18, 2010 Author Posted August 18, 2010 I took the 4 wt out for a spin today. I was pretty darn pleased with it. I fished a stimulator with a beadhead midge as a dropper. It is SO MUCH fun watching a trout rise up to slurp that stimulator dowm. I fshed a scud under an indicator as well, but I was ruined by having fished the topwater stuff first. After one wind knot too many, I tied a solo hopper on and fished my way out. I ended up giving 17 trout to hand. No browns but I did get a cutty. I got lots of looks. I feel like I learned a lot about fishing hoppers today. Stuff to build on. If the 4 wt did ok with a big ole hopper pattern, I don't expect to have many issues with smaller drys and soft hackles.
