Members Snowflake Posted June 9, 2006 Members Posted June 9, 2006 Who cares if Bill makes a penny off of the sale of a micro jig?!?! It's a free market society. I for one, who only makes a couple of trips a year to Taneycomo, appreciate the insight into what the fish are biting on, so my trip is worthwhile. So I appreciate both Phil, Bill, and the others on here that offer their reports on what the trout are looking for.
gonefishin Posted June 9, 2006 Posted June 9, 2006 Hold the boat Bill. If you are upset by what I said dont be. It was not pointed at you. Also it was meant as humor hence the 'Heh heh' at the end of my comments. I use a lot of micro jigs. They catch fish as opposed to a lot of things in my tackle box that are only meant to catch fishermen's bucks. Personally I doubt you are making money on Micro jigs but if you are then more power to you because like I said, they work and the only way they are going to stay on the market is if people are making money on them. gonefishin I am always very careful with my post to try and be as accurate as possible. The question was posed how to tie this particular jig and I explained as it had been explained to me and from what I have found after using the jig for the last 10 years and littterally catching 1000's of fish on it. Every boat fishing guide uses it as his staple for the lower section of the restricted area and will continue to use it. I have never promoted my guide business, or any other venture on this fourm nor will I ever personally do so without paying for the advertisment. And for that matter, you probably really don't need me to post further about the fishing. Thanks all, enjoy the wonderful site that phil has provided to educate and entertain. I would rather be fishin'. "Democracy is two wolves and a lamb voting on what to have for lunch. Liberty is a well-armed lamb contesting the vote." Benjamin Franklin, 1759
riverrat Posted June 9, 2006 Posted June 9, 2006 I don't know where to begin, but here goes. I love to fish. This year because of family concerns, I only get to fish about 1/4 as much as usual. This forum has been a sanity saver for me. Where else can you go and learn about fishing for free. I wish I would have had advice on lures and techniques early in my fishing life. I would be a better fisherman now and would not have a basement full of lures that don't work very well. Oh well you're never too old to learn. To me this forum is all about helping each other, learning, and good fellowship. BE NICE. Even though I don't trout fish or fish for black bass in the lakes I read Mr. Babler's posts religiously, because I know he knows what he's talking about and some of it is going to translate to my river smallmouth fishing. I think everyone who read the post that upset Mr Babler thinks it was way out of line. We need Mr. Babler here. Help me out guys
Danoinark Posted June 9, 2006 Posted June 9, 2006 Absolutely...Bill don't go away...we need your insight and reports. I look forward to them everytime I check the forum. Dano Glass Has Class "from the laid back lane in the Arkansas Ozarks"
Micheal Kyle Posted June 9, 2006 Posted June 9, 2006 Everyone, Here goes my two cents, I think that everyone needs count to ten befor any of us post replies on here. Because it is us that make this forum run. Yes Phil does a wonderful job as the site admin, but with out us there is no forum. This a great site and is chunked full of info. But if this is going to happen when somebody gives a little side shot all out of fun the site will demish because who wants to read a soap opera, not me or any one else. I think that Bill did an excellent job explaining the micro jig as well in all of his post about fishing and I hope that he will continue to post for sake of the site. There is nothing that is posted on this site that anyone should take personal. I hope that everyone will realize that there is much more to this sport and site than that. Maybe we all should get together down there and meet and greet so we all know who the major contributors to the site with post are. That would be hoot everyone chip in money and have an OAF cook out Have a good day Michael To Know People Is To Know Thier Ways!
twosets Posted June 9, 2006 Posted June 9, 2006 We have this saying at our office "No good deed goes unpunished" Here is Bill taking his time and expertise and sharing it for free for all of us who want to learn something. Unlike 99% of fishing guides around the country that I have dealt with(not you local Branson guys), he carefully explains to anyone who wants to read, what to use, where to use it, how to use it, and why it will work best. There are reasons why some people catch more than others who are using " the same thing". I'm sure that there are many people like me who do not have the opertunity to fish as much as we would like and therefore enjoy reading about it. Then, here comes some complete kuncklehead(insert your favorite phrase, so many come to mind that it is hard to pick just one) who decides it is somehow funny to impune the integrity of Bill by suggesting that Bill is somehow profiting by his advice. Real Funny, Ha Ha Ha People with no integrity of their own perhaps do not understand how important it is to those who maintain it at a high level. I'm not sure if people notice, but at times Bill goes on this forum earily in the morning and late at night to give up to the minute reports. I'm sure that he does not have anything better to do before or after a day of work than to give us great advice. If Bill decides not to post anymore I completely understand his frustration, but all of us will be poorer for it. George "This is not Nam. This is bowling. There are rules."
Troutn Posted June 9, 2006 Posted June 9, 2006 This place won't be the same without Bill around! It has got to be frustrating putting all the time and effort into something just for it to be totaly disregarded. I also think that the explanation of the micro jig was very educational. There's a whole lot to know about something so small. As always, that post wasn't unlike any other he post, very helpful. I know that without Bill and his up to date info a lot of people will be catching a lot less fish. I think the idea of a meet and greet would be fantastic. I would really enjoy getting to meet some of the people I take advice from daily. I sure hope this all comes out alright in the wash! Nathan
flipper Posted June 9, 2006 Posted June 9, 2006 MR. BABLER I HOPE YOU WILL CONTINUE TO POST AS i FOR ONE BENIFIT /ENJOY YOUR COMMENTS!! PLEASE DON'T LET ONE SMART@$%&%#* RUIN IT FOR THE REST OF US!! GO BUY YOUR TACKLE AT WALMART AND SEE HOW MUCH GOOD ADVICE YOU GET!!!!
rainbow Posted June 9, 2006 Posted June 9, 2006 I doubt if one attempted humor post will keep Bill away. The guy was probably kidding so don't take it so serious fellas. If Bill gives us good advice on a jig, and then Phil says he has some and we buy them and catch fish why shouldn't they make some money out of it. I know that is not necessarily their motive but it is their business. I have stayed at Lilley's many times, always ask their advice and most always buy (in their shop) what they tell me. That is why they are the pro's. Everything Bill or Phil have ever told me or posted on here was the gospel truth as they know it. So we want guys like them to make a living from us fishermen or guess what....we don't have places like this or their advice when we fish. My two cents worth on this one.
Bill Babler Posted June 9, 2006 Author Posted June 9, 2006 Guys, this has gone far enough. I would like to sincerely apologize for my hasty post this moring at 5 am. I cannot tell you how hurtful and disrespectful I found that post to be, but then Rich owes me no respect. This is an open fourm and he may say what he thinks. I hold several things very dear to me with my family and friends being what matters in my life. My word and the way that I treat people are how I justify the good Lord placing me here. For someone to suggest that I would lie on fishing reports to profit on the sale of a few stinking flys is just not the life I have chosen for myself. The entire tone of the post was to disrespect me by calling me Billy, I am called William by my relations and Bill by friends and aquantances. It all just rubbed me the total wrong way. Like Michael said, this is a fishing fourm and not a soap. I do think Rich is right in the aspect that perhaps these posts have become a conflict of interest. I find that to be my fault and have been warned by other guides that being to free with the info and the hows and whys are going to get me in trouble. They seem to have been right. We have wonderful full time guides in this area that won't post and expose theirselves to the redicule and I guess you can't blame them. I may have crossed the line. I feel any of us in the fishing industry should probably let the fish for fun guys answer any of the product or tech. questions. This way it won't be construded as trying to make a profit off the fourm. I will continue to post fishing reports in the areas I fish and will try to do so in a more professional mannar. I have guided the lower restricted area for 1000's of days in the last 15 years and feel for the most part that I have a pretty good handle on it most times. I make no claims from Clay Banks to the dam in the wade area and only speak of what I know. Thank all of you for your kind words and I hope to continue to keep you updated as to what me and my clients are doing. William J. Babler http://whiteriveroutfitters.com http://whiteriverlodgebb.com
