dtrs5kprs Posted June 10, 2010 Posted June 10, 2010 Odd question, but does anyone have anything going for short fish they would be willing to pass on? Will be down starting Sunday eve thru the next Sunday and would like to put my 9yo daughter on some fish that will eat what she throws. Thinking about chuggers or torpedos around docks early, smoke grubs off flats and points if that does not go. She is pretty handy with the smoke grub. Know where I would start if by myself, but am afraid that may be a few and far between bite, dragging rigs and fb's way off the gravel places looking for brown fish. Think that may be a bit much for her, esp when the wakes get up. Willing to go to little rigs with crawlers for her in similar places if that sounds possible.

I have fished from Mill to the Dam 5 times the last 7 days and there are plenty of fish up shallow on main lake points and even creek secondary points. Now it is has been mixed which type of points they wanted and yesterday it was flat with timber...last couple of trips it was gravel/chunk transition types. I have been catching them on a swimbait but I am sure they will hit grubs, small cranks, senko, flukes, split shot, etc. I have been keeping the boat in 14-16ft and just fishing inside/outside then moving on.
Stump bumper Posted June 10, 2010 Posted June 10, 2010 A 4in Old purple or watermelon worm on a drop shot or shacky head up against bluff walls with a good ledge close to deep water has been good to me. That Zoom Old Purple is hard to find but it seems to be candy for those little spots. With the watermelon, watermelon candy worms I always dip the tails just a little in the spike-it. On the drop shot I keep it cheap and simple with a no.2 straight shank Eagle Claw hook, they come in packs of 50 at Wallmart and a split shot on the end. There is a lot of retieing involved with throwing that all day, but most of the time you just loose the split shot. On the shakey heads I go back and forth from the worm to a twin tail grub in cinniamon purple, the Zoom creepy Crawler seem to have more action then the Fat Albert. Staying on those ledges from the wall down to 15-20 ft near 60-80ft doesn't get very many keepers but seems to produce action. I have found that the younger people who don't have a knee jerk hook set fish a drop shot better than old fisherman. Hope that helps, by the way there are a lot of bluegill up on the walls right now so you can catch some big sunnies to keep things going.
MOBass Posted June 10, 2010 Posted June 10, 2010 Drop shot a crawler near the bridge pillings. Plenty of shorts and gill around them most of the time to keep the rod bent. There will be the occasional keeper in the mix to keep things interesting. Boat traffice becomes an issue on weekends after mid morning.
techo Posted June 10, 2010 Posted June 10, 2010 I wil PM you a spot, but live crawlers is what we use when we take the neighbor kids fishing. Beats all of the fake stuff hands down. Plus just fun to put on the hook. On a side note.....seems like your a pharmicist? What do you think of glucosamine for the joints of us aging folk? Tim Carpenter
rps Posted June 10, 2010 Posted June 10, 2010 Techo - If you need joint assistance, I guess some of the rest of us need to buy gurneys and hire people to push us and wipe the dribbles from our chins. ;-) Maybe we should have considered the abuse we inflicted on ourselves as youths? Perhaps I should not have played those last ten years of rugby. BTW dtrs5kprs, go with the 4 inch plastic on a split shot- drop or C rig. Flip it into boat slips and hang on.

To many years in the gym lifting weights! We won our body transormation contest this year....so took up running. I have had two knee surgeries and want to run a marathon in November. The knees are whining a bit. I didn't mean to steal the thread topic though! I am to fragile for rugby! Checkers? Tim Carpenter

The glucosamine combos seem to work for most folks and are usually safe. Takes several weeks to see much change, still not a real solid consensus on why they work (improved cart, health, anti-inflam. effect, are some of the ideas). Only condition I ever put on it is to stick with one manufacturer if possible as FDA does not regulate the strength, lot to lot consistency, etc. That holds for all of the "dietary and food supplements", many ingredients of which strongly resemble what you might get chewing on your neighbors lilac or rose bushes . We don't normally hold to that with the Rx meds as they are required to meet established standards. Appreciate all the replies...guess it goes to show how many fish we have right now when you can catch them so many different ways. May be hard for me to get her off the grub after last year, had to talk her out of sneaking a rod on board the Branson Belle last weekend when we were down for her birthday. Her first keeper, closest to her, last August scrubbing a smoke grub. Sort of raised her expectations a bit.

dtrs5kprs Posted June 11, 2010 Author Posted June 11, 2010 As long as they will let me. Will be there Sunday eve for a week. Have not found a better overall location to fish from, whether putting in there, or trailering to Baxter, Aunts, etc. And close to Ma's .
