Ham Posted June 16, 2010 Posted June 16, 2010 So was the person you saw violating every Norfork specfic rule or just certain ones? Every Saint has a past, every Sinner has a future. On Instagram @hamneedstofish
gotmuddy Posted June 18, 2010 Posted June 18, 2010 only a complete idiot would try using a drag chain or anchor on that river while generating. It moves way too fast. everything in this post is purely opinion and is said to annoy you.
Ham Posted June 18, 2010 Posted June 18, 2010 The high rate of flow generally destroys the grass on the Norfork. It sure would be handy if it was legal to drag a chain, but I do mt best to stay legal. I got frustrated in the Norfork yesterday fishing/fighting the boat solo for a couple of hours. Hooked 20 caught seven. Never got a rainbow to the boat just browns/cutts. Every Saint has a past, every Sinner has a future. On Instagram @hamneedstofish
Zack Hoyt Posted June 18, 2010 Author Posted June 18, 2010 Drag chains are the main reason the moss beds and grass have disappeared. You really think the high flows are uprooting grass that has a root system of close to a foot depth? Gotmuddy - I would agree. Whats scarier is most resorts rent boats with the drag chains equipped. gotmuddy Posted June 18, 2010 Posted June 18, 2010 That $#@%$#^@# slime is annoying as heck. I wish we could find a way to take care of it. Grass on the other hand is a good thing. Ham, I have started using my 9.9 as a trolling motor on norfork. With a little practice you can get it to keep you in one spot pretty easily. Another thing I like to do on the lower section is use the trolling motor on the front of the boat to slow the boat down(like a anchor or chain). My big boat has a 24v trolling motor however. everything in this post is purely opinion and is said to annoy you.
Ham Posted June 18, 2010 Posted June 18, 2010 I've not seen too many grass beds on the Norfork, but I've only lived up here three years. Maybe I need to look harder. However, on the White where drag chains are allowed, there is lots of grass. Kinda ironic. I was guessing that when they opened the flood gates on the dam at Norfork that it might have scoured out some of the grass. It moved a lot of rock around. I'd love a chain to keep the bow pointed up river. I want to go downstream about as fast as the water. I just need to have a good fisherman in the bow and enjoy watching them catch fish while I run the boat. Missed you at the Cotter Trout Fest Zach. I talked to Ken for a minute or two. taxidermist Posted June 23, 2010 Posted June 23, 2010 The high water a couple years back removed most of the grass and coontail moss from White River. Now we have the green slime.
