Ill Trout Bum Posted June 19, 2010 Posted June 19, 2010 Was wondering if anyone uses them and if you like them? I have both the regular and midge sizes. I started using them last year and absolutely love them. It takes a little getting used to at first, but once you have the motion down, they work perfectly. I really like the way the tool releases smaller more delicate flies without damaging them. Super handy for cold weather fishing as you never have to touch the fish or fumble for a pair of hemostats. jdmidwest Posted June 20, 2010 Posted June 20, 2010 I have used them for a long time, since they came out in the 90's. They work really well with barbless hooks. I just have the regular sized one on a zinger. They don't mess up a fly like hemostats do. "Life has become immeasurably better since I have been forced to stop taking it seriously." — Hunter S. fishinwrench Posted June 20, 2010 Posted June 20, 2010 Or if you happen to be cheap, a few creative bends along a piece of wire clothes hanger works just as good.
jdmidwest Posted June 20, 2010 Posted June 20, 2010 And someone makes a hemostat with the release curve on them too. "Life has become immeasurably better since I have been forced to stop taking it seriously." — Hunter S. Thompson
Members Knee Deep Posted June 20, 2010 Members Posted June 20, 2010 I use the Ketchum tool and love it. The less you handle the fish the better for the fish. It just pops those small hooks right out. A group of trout is called a hover
vanven Posted June 21, 2010 Posted June 21, 2010 I use them in the winter. They are helpful although I am left handed and it feels awkward, like using right handed scissors. -Jerod
