Root Admin Phil Lilley Posted June 20, 2010 Root Admin Posted June 20, 2010 Took some friends out last evening for a 90 minute trip. Put in at State Park and went directly to the cove to the north of the Branson Belle. 12-20 foot of water and dropped a piece of worm to the bottom and wham! Blue Gill City! We caught 25 biggun's plus a 15-inch spot and a 5 pound flathead. Broke off another cat. I was told to go to any cove where I've found goggleye's in May and that's what I did. Pea gravel bank, small cove off main lake.
Champ188 Posted June 20, 2010 Posted June 20, 2010 That's fun fishin. Chasing bass derbies around like Donna and I do, we don't often get a chance to enjoy action like that. Thanks for the report.
dtrs5kprs Posted June 21, 2010 Posted June 21, 2010 Curious if any of your 'gills were chased by bass? My kids had several that almost became bass snacks while they were fighting them, mostly up shallow in backs of little coves/cuts.
Root Admin Phil Lilley Posted June 21, 2010 Author Root Admin Posted June 21, 2010 No. When the sun went down, all they caught were small gills. I told them to throw them back hooked- they'd catch a big bass or cat. They didn't do it.
dtrs5kprs Posted June 21, 2010 Posted June 21, 2010 Too bad. My crew did not catch any chasers, but it was definitely visually impressive.
