Fly_Guy Posted July 1, 2010 Posted July 1, 2010 If Ray Scott had been a walleye fisherman, we would be saying 'Nice mess!', and we would be giving people a hard time for keeping a limit of walleye on the Stockton forum. It's interesting to see how colored we are by the fact that the bass is a big money celebrity. If it's legal, 'sfine by me. I have no special feelings toward the bass compared to any other fish. If I catch a fish in a delicate habitat, I'll let it go, but these could be taken from a farm pond for all we know. Or a big lake. I never thought bass tasted that super however, but some people fish for food. I do, but for different, better tasting species (crappie, catfish, white bass). It's fun sometimes to just think about it - what if the bass had never become famous? What if Ray Scott started the Drum Anglers Sportsman Society? Drum 1) fight better 2) taste worse. Win-win in my book.
rangerman Posted July 1, 2010 Posted July 1, 2010 Thank you Fly Guy, you hit the nail on the head.......A bass is a fish, a fish with filets that eats like any other..so who cares as long as it is legal, eat it. I'll be going after TR kentuckies for the frying pan this week. Also good baked and grilled.
Tfsh4bass Posted July 2, 2010 Posted July 2, 2010 so who cares as long as it is legal We don't know the answer to this but based on the number of fish there would have had to be 7 anglers fishing on most lakes/rivers in the state of Arkansas to legally keep that many bass. I highly doubt that is the case and I am interested to hear their response to the pic.

jdmidwest Posted July 2, 2010 Posted July 2, 2010 I wouldn't get too bent out of shape about that picture, especially without knowing the circumstances. I really don't worry about size and limits, since I always put them back. A couple people have mentioned private ponds -- still subject to limits or not? Also, could be a group of fishermen, not just one. Don't assume I like seeing it, I really don't. Private ponds are whatever you put and take, no limits, unless they are stocked by MDC and then you have to abide by state rules. Private ponds are your fish, you paid to stock it, you can do whatever you want to with them. There are many reasons the number of fish could have legally shown up in the photo. And, some people eat fish, so I am sure they did not go to waste. It they were rotting and tossed up on a bank, a more disturbing photo would have been taken. denjac Posted July 2, 2010 Author Posted July 2, 2010 If it weremt for catch and release those fish would never have been there. I dont care if they came out of a pond, river or lake. Someone had released them after being caught so those guys could eat them. The bass is the most heavily pressured fish that we all go after. Ever target catfish, walleye or crappie with a top water bait? No! Ever wait to feel a catfish slam into a motionless jerkbait in 45 deg water? No. Is it a money fish? Yes. It is also the holy grail for anybody that wets a worm. That in my opinion is why the need a lttle extra help. When I release a nice bass there is a warn fuzzy feeling I get knowing maybe someone else can enjoy catching him like I did. So you eaters keep eating, and you releasers keep releasing and maybe we can have a balance . Dennis Boothe Joplin Mo. Maybe if your the actual pond owner, but if I go fish someones pond I believe that daily limits apply to me. Dennis Boothe Joplin Mo. Champ188 Posted July 2, 2010 Posted July 2, 2010 Denny, in my opinion, pictures like the one that started this whole mess are the result of testosterone poisoning and the need for affirmation. "Me big bad man. Look what I done went and kilt."
rangerman Posted July 2, 2010 Posted July 2, 2010 As far as the Table Rock traffic, ain't no thing for the Danger Ranger......And by the way, I kind of agree with the limit fact, I would like to know where they were at. BY the way, rest assured I release all large and smallmouths caught...I have a soft spot for smallies as I love to catch them. Never, ever taken the butcher knife to one..Same for largemouths.... I'd rather fish the very sparce population of eye's, they are alot more challenging.
