Members JBlab0719 Posted July 13, 2010 Members Posted July 13, 2010 Anyone know if the Lake St. Louis lake is open to the public or if it's private? I was looking online and found there is a club for it but it does not specify if it is open to residents only.

TroutRinger Posted July 13, 2010 Posted July 13, 2010 Not sure. But I think it's private. "Of all the liars among mankind, the fisherman is the most trustworthy." "There's a fine line between fishing and standing on the shore like an idiot."
Members JBlab0719 Posted July 13, 2010 Author Members Posted July 13, 2010 Private, gotta live there. Bummer, looks like a lot of good bass fishing there according to the website.
Chris Barclay Posted July 13, 2010 Posted July 13, 2010 When I drove by there last week I was thinking the same thing. Bummer it's not public. Chris St. Louis, MOcbarclayflyrods.combreambum.blogspot.com
Thom Posted July 13, 2010 Posted July 13, 2010 Private, gotta live there. Actually it is more specific than that. Lots of people live in Lake St. Louis but are not in the original Lake St. Louis community association. They cannot use the lake. My son lives in Lake ST. Louis within 6 blocks of the lake but does not have lake priveledes. It was his choice because he didn't want to pay the community assn fees and have a yearly assessment. By the way Nelly lived on the lake for several years in his hey day. Actually owned 2 homes. One 2 blocks from my son in which he used for his ontourage. You would have never know it unless someone would have told you. Very low profile. One home probally 1.5 mil the other 300K. There is good fishing on both lakes. Huge crappie in the spring and fall and channel cat, bass, bluegill populations are formidable. A couple of my friends work water patrol on the lake and it is heavly patroled. Thom Harvengt

The "private" status of Lake St. Louis is something that I have wondered about for some time. The reason I say this is that the lake is actually considered "waters of the state" because is it was created by impounding a flowing, navigatable stream. Here is a link from an MDC report stating this fact. http://lslangler.com/images/pdf/mdocbig07.pdf It is on page two under largemouth bass. This report also states that Lake Saint Louis fishing regulations can not be legally enfored due to the waters of the state issue. From my understanding, the lake is also patroled by Missouri Water Patrol. Unless this is a service which is paid for by Lake Saint Louis revenues, I would guess that funding would be coming from the general Missouri Water Patrol resources (our taxes). My question is, if Lake Saint Louis is considered waters of the state and my taxes are paying for Missouri Water Patrol to oversee it, is it actually private? Or is the "private" issue only a matter of appearance in the same way that the size/bag limits are not legally enforceable? I have tried searching for a what the ramifications of being labeled "waters of the state" are and have not had any luck. Maybe I will give the MDC and Missouri Water Patrol a call and see if I can get more info. If anyone knows, I would appreciate any answers or opinions. Nathan
Thom Posted October 1, 2010 Posted October 1, 2010 Even if you do have the right to be on Lake St. Louis there is no way to get onto the waters via the stream Pereau creek which is not a navigatible stream at either end of Lake St louis. One end of the lake is a waterfall about 10 foor high and the other end , the entrance of Pereau ck is under highway 40 bridge and has a licensed entrance filter that cannot be passed with a boat without leaving the water onto private property and then re entering the lake. Believe me the entrances to the lake are unpassable without crossing private property. Actually I inquired into the matter just earlier with one of the partol officers who is a friend of mine..
