Members fireman Posted July 22, 2010 Members Posted July 22, 2010 hello all. i'm looking at a used boat, a fish and ski. it has a yamaha vmax 225 hp on it, looks to be in good condition. havent test road it yet, but was wondering how you all felt about the nada prices compared to the actual asking prices of the sellers. ther is about a $5000 difference in his asking price and the nada retail average price. so what can you tell me about the nada prices? are they close? fireman
T-RockJaws Posted July 22, 2010 Posted July 22, 2010 It has always been my opinion that the NADA prices are pretty accurate. On trade ins, you will get a little less and to sell out right you will get a little more. $5000 above the NADA price sounds a little steep to me. Of coarse, that is just my opinion...
denjac Posted July 22, 2010 Posted July 22, 2010 Nada, doesnt figure in cost of trolling motor, boat tarp ect. Some figures dont include motor, just boat and trailer. Dennis Boothe Joplin Mo. FishinCricket Posted July 22, 2010 Posted July 22, 2010 If NADA figures their boats the same way they do their autos (data mined from NOS reports, auctions, etc) then i would suggest taking their "retail" and "wholesale" values with a grain of salt. It's better to look at what other similar (note I said similar) products are listed for and go from there. My questions to you would be: Does the boat suit your needs/wants? Does it fit your budget? Can you trust the seller? If the answer to these is yes, then buy it and don't second guess yourself. Good luck. cricket.c21.com

Leave it to a car salesman to forget the most important question: Can you get another boat that's just as good for a lower price somewhere else? Don't get stuck on one boat...leave yourself options and you'll be happier with your decision in the end.
Bird Watcher Posted July 22, 2010 Posted July 22, 2010 Also remember that in this economy, it's a buyers market for luxury toys like boats. They are a dime a dozen right now. I personally wouldn't buy one right now if the seller won't neogtiate to less than NADA. There are too many sellers out there that will.
Gilly Posted July 22, 2010 Posted July 22, 2010 5k is a lot of bucks especially considerimg the age of the boat. Add-ons ie; electronics, toys, etc. could add some to the price but as mentioned above in this economy, not too much. You might be dealing with an overleveraged seller, be careful. Heck, for 5k you could almost look at a new boat. They are really dealing on those. www.drydock516.com

Coulda swore i covered that with the statement "It's better to look at what other similar (note I said similar) products are listed for and go from there." My apologies for offering any advice regarding retail sales. Take Erics advice, he seems to be full of sage wisdom regarding, well, everything.... cricket.c21.com

TroutRinger Posted July 22, 2010 Posted July 22, 2010 My experience (at least with outboards) is that NADA seemed very low. "Of all the liars among mankind, the fisherman is the most trustworthy." "There's a fine line between fishing and standing on the shore like an idiot."
