Stitch And Glue Kayak With No Plans

Well I saw a tandem Old Town kayak at Bass Pro and decided on building one for fishing the streams. I measured the depth and the width and the cockpit and went from their.

I started with 1/4 of the hull and used pb. and cardboard to mock it up.

Then made plywood templates off the cardboard which took considerable modifying to get things to work.

The pcs. ready to assemble.

9 days later working part time on it.

More framing done I am going to cedar strip the deck and paint the hull when all is said and done. Need to go get some fiberglass resin. I weighed the plywood before assembly and it came to 20lbs the framing couldn't weigh more than 2-3 lbs.

Looks like that yak is coming along pretty nice.

Woodman with the skills you have shown around here. I would be splitting some cane there are folks out there that pay serious cash for tiny bits of wiggling fiber. Beautiful work again.

More framing on each end. Now it is ready to glass.

I glassed the inside then a coat of some old epoxy I had since 1993 and is still good.
