I am new to the Table Rock area. I have a slip & lift - boat with outboard. I am use to Nebraska lakes freezing about 20" of ice. Do yall winterize your outboards, or just keep fishing with them throughout the winter..

Thanks..

One slip and lift owner to another - I winterize. Although we don't freeze over solid, we do get ice and snow storms. And they always seem to come in time for my weekends off. I almost never fish between Christmas and March.

If your boat and motor are going to be outside in the elements, I would also reccomend winterizing. If you want to fish all winter and can keep your boat in storage somewhere, you can get by as long as you make sure you drain all water out of your motor and live wells after each use.

1995 Johnson 200 on bass boat and 2002 Merc 200 on pontoon.

Haven't winterized in 5+ years, not a single problem with either.

Sta-bil in full tanks on both, drain all water from engine, replace lower unit oil every Fall, grease fittings, trickle charge on all batteries.

I do store all of my electronics in the house.

Have fished in December, January and February almost every year.

I agree with Gitnby. I have a 150hp Optimax that is on the lift year-round when not in the lake and I do not winterize. Change the lower unit lube in the fall. Full gas tank with stabilizer (I use the Quicksilver brand on recommendation from my mechanic). Charger on the trolling motor batteries and ProMariner® ProSport Battery Maintainer on the cranking battery. Keep the motor vertical so all the water will drain.

Even with our cold winter last year I put the boat in almost every month. Never a problem starting. The lake is beautiful in the winter.

I would be more likley to put my boat up for July and August then any other month. I am a native but spent 16 years in the North east, NY and Vermont and I just don't get cold here. They have a New Year tournament on Beaver every year and that has always been my best tournament of the year usually running cranks in 2 to 3 feet of water and very active small mouths.

My boat sleeps in the garage though, I have a friend who fishes all year and keeps his bass boat in outdoor storage and never had problems but he left his second boat an inboard/outboard ski boat in his slip last winter and the block froze and cracked last winter.

But if you want some good winter action, hope to see you over here on Beaver this winter for the stripper, lots of 20 pound fish with some 30-40 lb once in a while with no more than a bass rod and a jerkbait.

Welcome to the area and glad to have another fisherman around and thanks for not bringing a wake boat.

Billfo - how could you leave us and move to the south so that you can enjoy fishing year around at any one of a dozen lakes that will not completely freeze over???

I am baffled to say the least......... or green with envy- at least have the decency to display your allegence to the Husker Nation by proudly showing off your license plate holder where it says "I am a husker" as it surrounds your new Missouri license plate.

Enjoy your new digs smile.gif

I live in northern Indiana and have never winterized my boat-we will fish till ice on and be the first out when ice out. But we do make sure we drain everything before we leave the ramp. Sometimes were pushing ice to get out-lol. Take care of your equipment and drain it right and you will be OK.
