strangercreek Posted October 13, 2010 Posted October 13, 2010 Has anyone actually used one? I am curious about the drag. I just bought a 6 wt for warm water and was looking at a Sage 1800 (same drag I believe) or a Konic. I have two Lamson Radius reels I really like but I've heard good things about the Sage reels also. FYI, there is a listing on Kansas City Craig's list from a lady who was a warm water guide and she has a bunch of rods for sale. I bought a brand new 6wt Ticr with full handle/fighting but from her for $150. She lives in Lawrence KS.
Gavin Posted October 13, 2010 Posted October 13, 2010 I'd be interested to see one in hand and inspect the drag, spool engagement, and click mechanism...Its also $260....Its light, with plenty o bling,...but its very hard to top a Lamson Konic for half the price.
Geoff Posted October 13, 2010 Posted October 13, 2010 I have had mine out on a trip. Could a couple trout with it, handled them just fine and dandy. With backing and some Rio Grande on it it the rod is plenty balanced. The drag tightened down all the way darn near stops the drag. i am very happy with it overall. I have a Lamson reel and love it. My only complaint is that it is a mid arbor on the smaller side of mid. When you say light, we are talking less than half the weight of the Lamson. To me that is a really big difference when paired with a really light rod. I feel strongly that the Konic is the best cheap reel you can buy when you compare the price to the quality of the drag and workmanship. I would compare the Sage to reels like Abel, etc that are ~$500. That makes $260 much easier to swallow. I had this reel on my birthday list until I found out that my job was ending. Now it is on the "when I land a new job" list. -Jerod
