stlfisher Posted October 2, 2010 Posted October 2, 2010 This was some good information as I have had the same situation happen to me.
snagged in outlet 3 Posted October 2, 2010 Posted October 2, 2010 If your tippet is too long the weight of the fly can colapse your loop and cause the fly to rub your leader. I'll try and get down there and help you out soon. SIO3

I didn't have a net big enough for him so I tried to get him up on shore and he got off not 3 feet from me. And yes, I was using a 9' leader with about 2 feet of tippet. I changed to a 4X leader that is about 7½' and added about 2 ' of tippet. There's a fine line between fishing and sitting there looking stupid.

Danoinark Posted October 2, 2010 Posted October 2, 2010 Dude, haven't you heard? Golf is for those who don't know how to fish. But you have to love golfers....its keep more people off the streams. Glass Has Class "from the laid back lane in the Arkansas Ozarks"
snagged in outlet 3 Posted October 2, 2010 Posted October 2, 2010 Golf is for guys who live in an area where there are no trout. Beating the crap out of your buddies for money is ALMOST as good as fly fishing. And it's better than nothing. SIO3
Members Yakfly Posted October 11, 2010 Members Posted October 11, 2010 I've gone to using bulk flourocarbon for tippet material. I use Vanish in 6#, 4#, and 2#. Caught 250 yard filler spools on sale at WallyWorld a few years ago for $5. I think regular price is $10. The 4# is 4x diameter, works great! I've thought about going up to 4X but I'm not sure if the fish will be turned off by that size tippet or not. I can't afford flouro right now.
