straw hat Posted October 6, 2010 Posted October 6, 2010 Thanks for the good report SmallyWally. That is a good ratio for keepers on those walleye. Good luck on your next trip.
MstStudent10 Posted October 6, 2010 Posted October 6, 2010 ps. msstudent trying to be funny??? Thats good but come up with some good jayhawk jokes. we can all understand them better!! Jayhawk jokes? I don't think I need to come up with any. Aren't they a joke already?... Set the hook first, ask questions later...
Gilly Posted October 6, 2010 Posted October 6, 2010 Bummer. I had to come back to Omaha late last night. My wife and sons are still fishing Stockton. Just talked to them. Fish are hitting mostly red colors. Bite is light. My son had to chuckle. A small walleye hit him, "Stupid fish was smaller than the spoon." It's all good! www.drydock516.com
Members Dollar Bill Posted October 7, 2010 Members Posted October 7, 2010 Been fishing 3 times in the last week out of Cedar Ridge. I pretty much keep an open mind on what to target day by day depending on what the lake gives me. Wind speed and direction, air and water temperature, number of other boaters and where the bait fish are guide me towards a pattern that will give me my best shot of both enjoying my time on the water and catching fish... Lately it's been giving me a white bass pattern. As I look aroung I've been seeing quite a bit of small shad activity in the backs of long coves or small creek arms. A rooster tail in white or green has allowed me 50 to 100 whites per trip! Many are too small to clean but with patience I have been able to eke out a limit of em. Man they pull hard! I'm sure there are other species of fish around too, I've caught several short bass and some eyes, but the whites are the most consistant for me. I'm talkin 18 fish in 20 casts! It's more fun when you downsize your gear to 4 or 6 lb test with a little spinning rod. The occassional 2 pounder will give you all the fight you want! Have fun and be safe! Is this fun or what!
BolivarBasser Posted October 8, 2010 Author Posted October 8, 2010 Dollar bill, I need to fish with you. I've never caught a white and can't ever seem to find the "signs" I hear about on here. Maybe I'm just not looking hard enough
mrgungho Posted October 8, 2010 Posted October 8, 2010 Dollar bill, I need to fish with you. I've never caught a white and can't ever seem to find the "signs" I hear about on here. Maybe I'm just not looking hard enough BB...if you fish coves in the Spring or in the Fall you will defintely get on some Whites. Keep a rooster tail or a swimming minnow tied up on a little spinning rig and be ready. When you get on them they will get spooked and hyper and start freaking out all over the cove. When you see this just throw that little rig in the general direction and you'll catch a few at least. They'll turn on and off really quick and you may have to hit up mire coves to keep it going but this will defintely get the job done. This Spring up on the Shoals we were fishing 3/8OZ spinner baits for Blacks and Smalls and KY's and ended up catching a limit each of Whites...that was kind of cool because the larger bait was bringing the larger whites in and weeded out the little ones. If you get into them REALLY good then I believe they will hit nearly anything you throw. Anyways, think coves and have that spinning rig ready to throw in a heartbeat because they WILL turn on and off very fast. Good luck!
