Members Table Rock's Own Posted October 19, 2010 Members Posted October 19, 2010 I was contacted by one of our local professional fisherman fishing the PAA tournament last week. The fisherman apparently had an encounter with a man while fishing around a large community dock. The man was very upset with someone fishing around his dock and yelled and cursed at the fisherman. This is a very brief history of the story! I was wondering if any other fishermen have had any problems with private dock owners while fishing?
denjac Posted October 19, 2010 Posted October 19, 2010 I have never had a problem with a private dock owner on Table Rock. Most like to visit and are surprised when you catch a fish off there dock . Public docks is a differant story, I get yelled at by them all the time . You said there was a breif history , did the fisherman hit him in the head with a jig , or bounce one off his boat in the slip ? Dennis Boothe Joplin Mo. Champ188 Posted October 19, 2010 Posted October 19, 2010 Hmmm, the water patrol soliciting info on this forum? Sounds fishy to me.
steveearle Posted October 19, 2010 Posted October 19, 2010 My brother in law was down over the weekend and noticed quite a few docks with new postings...What is the ordinance and is it enforceable?
Members jmabe0455 Posted October 19, 2010 Members Posted October 19, 2010 I had the exact same thing happen to me when I was fishing out of the back of the boat during a Central Proam tourney on Table Rock during August. The pro that I drew was flipping docks all day and when we got to a large community dock in the Kimberling City area we had a guy come out and get all over us for fishing his dock. He got biligerant and started cussing and said he was calling the lake patrol. We said go ahead because we didn't think we were in the wrong. My story got funny because as we were leaving the man's little fluffy dog decided to join us in our boat. I guess the dog didnt like the guy either!!!
captmac Posted October 19, 2010 Posted October 19, 2010 Had a similar run in with a private dock owner, I engaged him in some conversation and while he was talking I boated two keepers from his dock, one from under his feet then I promptly left . Wonder when he realized what hapened To have a true friend is wonderful, to have a true friend who fishes with you....... priceless
Larry Eby Posted October 19, 2010 Posted October 19, 2010 They've always been engaging with conversation about what I'm using. They sometimes tell me what they've been using on their own docks. Just what is the law concerning private or public docks on TR? I've also got a question about the docks up on Stockton lake. Seems like all of them are posted to stay away from them. Is that legal?
duckydoty Posted October 19, 2010 Posted October 19, 2010 They dont own the water, the fish or even the land that the dock is attached too. Corps owns all the land surrounding Table Rock Lake and all the land under the water of Table Rock Lake. Sounds like these dock people are harrassing you during your legal persuit of game fish which I do beleive is against the law in the state of Missouri. Maybe you should be calling the sherrif on them. A Little Rain Won't Hurt Them Fish.....They're Already Wet!! Visit my website at.. Ozark Trout Runners
Members cyclonebass Posted October 19, 2010 Members Posted October 19, 2010 Here is a link to answer your questions. Looks to me that commercial dock owners have the right to patrol and protect the area around their docks, but only people with federal jurisdiction would be able to enforce the regulation. According to the article, the water patrol does not have jurisdiction to enforce this regulation. My question is how do I find out if the dock is a commercially licensed dock? http://www.mswp.dps.mo.gov/News/NRDetailbasic.asp?Type=G&offset=80&ID=N07060027
rangerman Posted October 19, 2010 Posted October 19, 2010 As a private dock owner, fishing around mine doesn't bother me, buuuutttt, when I have them nosing into the stalls that is when I get a little agitated. Just for the mere fact of 1) I pay good money to have my dock and 2) it isn't neccessary to pull into a stall to flip if you are any good. And I believe the "no fishing" law has to do with commercial docks only.
