Well, pretty tough short trip for me today...fished from 7am until around noon out of Indian Point again. Caught 7 with 3 good keepers and lost a couple others. Everything I caught today was on the trailer hook on my blade so that tells you how they were biting for me. The really funny thing is I caught all the keepers plus 2 shorts completely out of the wind. I fished the wind most of the morning and all I caught was 2 little guys so I moved to the other side of the lake around 10am and caught the other 5 with 2 keeper spots and 1 keeper brownie. With the full moon I really should have night fished sometime but I don't really like doing that by myself much anymore. Nice to be on the water and then come home to watch a little NFL football...good day!

We got down later than I hope Friday and fished from about 2-6. We lost one pretty solid fish when he swam right at the boat and caught another keeper LM. Both came on jig (one Eakins, one FB) on secondary points in less than 10' of water.

Saturday got to fish from about 8 to 2. We caught a couple of keepers - both on jigs again - one smallmouth and one spot. The smallmouth came about 1/2 way back in a cove off the creek channel. The spot came on the point. The smallmouth was in about 15' and the spot was much shallower and in the wind. Lost a keeper LM at the boat when my trailer hook broke (hooked him in the back of Indian creek on a point, in about 3' of water in the wind).

Sunday fished from about 7:15 to 9:30 and caught two more keepers - one spot and one LM on a spinnerbait on a bank with a lot of wind (back in a creek).

We actually caught more keepers than shorts (which is rare for us). Had several fish hit my spinnerbait over the three days and not hook up. Tried changing blades and colors but didn't seem to make any difference. Water was anywhere from 68 to 70. Stayed around the dam - mostly Indian Creek and lower Long Creek. Went a long time between bites most of the trip. Threw a lot of different things (buzzbait, swimbait, spook, grub, wiggle wart, etc). Didn't see many baitfish and didn't catch anything around the few balls we did see. Also found a few fish around docks (one took a look at a swimbait, another blew up on a buzz bait, caught a short on a jig) - but those were few and far between too.

I fished Fri night 5-7pm, only managed 1 fish and it was on a blade in 8fow on a point, about a 3lb smallie but that was it...tough for me for sure....hope this week will be good...

Looks like I wasn't the only one who struggled this weekend at the rock. I fished Saturday morning out of Aunts Creek and the James a little. Everything that shold have worked didn't. Wind waas blowing like crazy. One would have thought a blade would have worked perfectly, but to no avail. I was kicking up a lot of minnows when I was throwing the blade but no fish were with them. I caught one dinker kentucky on a white Buzzbait early and one keeper SM under a dock on a U=lock football head with a Fighting Frog trailer and that was it. I tried everything. Felt like I had no idea what to use that morning.

I blamed the whole week on the full moon. These fish worked the night shift . At least thats what I keep telling myself ! unsure.gif

Saturday-7AM-noon and from 4-6:30PM-had 4 keepers and maybe 10 total, mostly on the FB jig in 20-25' on main lake points.

Sunday-7AM-11AM and from 5-6:30PM-3 keepers, one on a redfin right at dark. FB jig and Eakins jig again on main lake and secondary points.

Monday-fished from 7 AM-11AM-couple of fat keeper K's early on a redfin, ran up to dam to fish dropshot on deep points. nothing! Moved in on points with FB and Eakin's jig and caught several nice smallies from 12-18'

BTW, I really like Zoom's speed craw trailer on the jig!(Green Pumpkin w/glitter) good action and it holds up well. Caught at least a dozen smallies before I had to change it out.

Today, Tuesday, the wind was down a bit and I was able to catch only 3 smjs on football jig and watermellon trailer, all about 15 inches near the dam. I am going to head west Wednesday and hope the wind does not increase too much. No top water bite for my spook. I need a new plan.
