Root Admin Phil Lilley Posted October 28, 2010 Root Admin Posted October 28, 2010 Had a guide trip this afternoon. Took Olin and Skip fishing. Fly fishing. Boated up to Andy's about 12:30, no water, some wind. Tied on tan micro's and set the indicators at 5 feet deep, 6x tippet. Fish on first cast. We literally chased the wind around all afternoon - following the shop on the water cause that's where the fish would bite. They caught about 15 rainbows each. Skip broke off a nice one and landed one about 18 inches. Olin didn't break any off but he did land a couple pushing 18 inches. Caught a lot of small rainbows too.
Bill Babler Posted October 29, 2010 Posted October 29, 2010 Very nice fish. Congrats to Olin. Had a very similar morning with a super nice 24 incher on the same Ginger micro, and about 30 very nice fish, with a lot on the upper end of 14 inches. Afternoon for us was as you say a game of chasing the wind. If you could get into the chop, "Game On." On flat water, not so much. Yesterday was excellent at the dam on 4 generators early with 20 bows to the boat drifting scuds over 16 inches with 2 at 20+. Fronted the scuds with an egg fly and took several on the egg, but majority of fish on a size 12 grey scud. Afternoon in the strong North wind was to say the least a challange. http://whiteriveroutfitters.com http://whiteriverlodgebb.com
duckydoty Posted October 29, 2010 Posted October 29, 2010 We did very well yesterday at Look Out Island. Soft hackles in the chop and midges (size 16 zebras) about 12 inches under an indicator on the down stream side of the Island worked the best for us. Drifting size 14 grey sow bugs with lots of weight under and indicator on the back side of the Island picked up several bows too. Nothing over 17 inches for us yesterday though. bigredbirdfan Posted October 29, 2010 Posted October 29, 2010 When guides refer to "micro jig" are these specifically the expensive little jigs in the clear plastic tubes or any jig in 1/100 or 1/125 in weight? Additionally what is the color difference between tan and ginger colors?
Root Admin Phil Lilley Posted October 29, 2010 Author Root Admin Posted October 29, 2010 Yes but the weights are 1/156 and 1/256. Tan and ginger- none. We are out of tan by the way. They're on order.
