Gavin Posted November 2, 2010 Posted November 2, 2010 The 2499 is a great hook, I use it for all my midges & scuds......I not a fan of scud hooks at all......The down eye & shape seems to lead to allot of brief hookups...hook up...then your fish is gone...especially in the smaller sizes.
Thom Posted November 2, 2010 Posted November 2, 2010 2499SPBL Tiemco for scuds and midges both. It has a super sharp point and comes barbless from the get go. Wide gap and just an all around awesome hook. Try it you will never use another 2457 again. Honest to god. Rich I agree great scud hook but hard to find at most fly shops. Where are you getting them? NoLuck Posted November 2, 2010 Posted November 2, 2010 I agree great scud hook but hard to find at most fly shops. Where are you getting them? Thom, I have been buying them at Hargroves. The last bunch I bought at Larry's at Bennett. They had a box of 100 so I went ahead and grabbed them.
Members Jeff Hearn Posted November 2, 2010 Members Posted November 2, 2010 Scud Hooks -- In no particular order but the only ones I tie on now Tiemco 2499 SPBL's -- down to 18 for now, rumors of a size 2o soon Partridge CZ and CZF -- only down to size 12 Partridge SHR -- only down to 16 or 18 Skalka Scud -- 18 is the smallest If they have to be smaller than size 20 then and only then 2488's Prices are pretty expensive for these....compared to the price of a boat or rod it is still pretty small..... Best price I know of on 2499's is $25 per 100 Jeff
