troutfiend1985 Posted November 5, 2010 Posted November 5, 2010 Might not be for everyone, but to me it's an interesting subject. I have to drive along way to get to a trout stream, usually waking up a 3:30 to go(broke law students don't have the $$ to get a hotel room). But for me, the drive down there is almost half the fun(the drive back sucks, but that's a different story). So I was wondering, does anyone has a certain type of music they listen to before they go fishing? Or a song that reminds them of fishing? Maybe I'm just weird(ok, I know that I'm weird, but again, a different story there too.) For me, Neil young is the best music to listen to before I go out. I 25, but I still find his music appealing. Especially, Live at Massey Hall. What say you? “The greatest menace to freedom is an inert people” J. Brandeis

Holy cow, TF. I'd say only about another ten guys on the planet know that album. It's a great one, indeed! Think Neil mighta been a little high that day? The whole thing is great, and there's even a couple I'd never heard, including Dance, Dance, Dance, which puts me in a good mood every time I hear it. Let me know if you're missing any NY albums...I've got his complete discography, from beginning to end. As soon as it hits me that I'm finally out of St. Louis and in the Ozarks on my way to a stream, I always seem to get the hankering for the Byrds "Sweetheart of the Rodeo." I also like Johnny Cash when I'm in the country.
Gavin Posted November 5, 2010 Posted November 5, 2010 Neil is great...like to play him...but cant stand his voice..Sings better than me though and I play a few of his tunes badly....Hard to beat some time tested rock & roll, old school funk, or some bluegrass on a long drive. Led, Jimi, Parliment, War,Flatt & Scruggs......something from when musicianship mattered.. Sweetheart is probably my favorite Byrds album....and Johnny...got all his stuff...Elvis too.

"in the country" you actually had a prefernce for "Caught 20 Spots and after 20 shots I went and let'em go" by Al Agnew. HUMAN RELATIONS MANAGER @ OZARK FISHING EXPEDITIONS
Mitch f Posted November 5, 2010 Posted November 5, 2010 I'll choose Willie Nelson or Leon Russell "Honor is a man's gift to himself" Rob Roy McGregor

I was 19 and listening to Sirius radio. I heard the song Ohio live at Massey Hall, and I just had one of those moments, "My grief, what is this, who is Neil Young, and why haven't I heard of him before?" I don't think I will ever forget that day, not saying that it changed my life, but it made me aware that there is more to rock than Nirvana(I'm not bashing Kurt by the way, I have most of their albums). I have only seen one concert, and it was a couple of years ago when Neil came to KC. Even got my girlfriend to go with me, I'll never forget it. Nothing like seeing a 65+ old man trying to break a guitar. I think my generation is really missing a Neil Young, or just a group that is politically, socially and culturally aware. Probably my favorite Neil song is Down Down Down, Eric if you don't have it let me know and I'll get you a copy. From the looks of things, I think I could ride with everyone here so far. Even good ol' Willy. “The greatest menace to freedom is an inert people” J. Brandeis

Yeah, Led's how the west was won is another great live album. Goin' to California. Jimi's awesome, wish Heoroin had never been invented. To bad, we lost alot of people to that stupid drug. I read a qoute somewhere that said something like: Rock is in a battle with heroin, and obviously Heroin is winning because rock is dead. Or something to that effect. “The greatest menace to freedom is an inert people” J. Brandeis

Wheatenheimer Posted November 5, 2010 Posted November 5, 2010 I was 19 and listening to Sirius radio. You Whippersnapper, you! Have to agree, Neil Young is an old favorite. Hey Eric, that local Springfield band (Big Smith) that I turned you on to, does a great cover of "Dance, dance, dance." I'll see if I can find a copy of it for ya! Too many great artist's over the years to narrow them down. Here are some of Wheat's heavy hitters: Yonder Mountain String Band, Cornmeal, Hot Buttered Rum, the afore mentioned Big Smith, Grateful Dead, Beatles, the Who, Peter Gabriel era Genesis, all the John's...John Denver, John Prine, Johnny Cash, John Hartford. Really, I could go on and on! But above all, I have to admit........I'm really a Manilow man. Nothing gets me in the mood to gig some Smallies like a little 'Mandy'!!!!
