Mitch f
One of my all time favorites. Nigel Tufnel: The numbers all go to eleven. Look, right across the board, eleven, eleven, eleven and... Marty DiBergi: Oh, I see. And most amps go up to ten? Nigel Tufnel: Exactly. Marty DiBergi: Does that mean it's louder? Is it any louder? Nigel Tufnel: Well, it's one louder, isn't it? It's not ten. You see, most blokes, you know, will be playing at ten. You're on ten here, all the way up, all the way up, all the way up, you're on ten on your guitar. Where can you go from there? Where? Marty DiBergi: I don't know. Nigel Tufnel: Nowhere. Exactly. What we do is, if we need that extra push over the cliff, you know what we do? Marty DiBergi: Put it up to eleven. Nigel Tufnel: Eleven. Exactly. One louder. Marty DiBergi: Why don't you just make ten louder and make ten be the top number and make that a little louder? Nigel Tufnel: [pause] These go to eleven. Eleven (11): Nigel's key to keeping Tap among England's loudest bands. In "This is Spinal Tap," he pointed out to director Marty DiBergi that the settings on Tap's Marshall amps could extend beyond the standard 10 mark. Nigel: "You see, most blokes will be playing at 10. You're on 10, all the way up, all the way up...Where can you go from there? Nowhere. What we do, is if we need that extra push over the cliff...Eleven. One louder." DiBergi: "Why don't you just make 10 louder and make 10 be the top number, and make that a little louder?" Nigel (after taking a moment to let this sink in): "These go to 11." In 1990, Marshall released its JCM900 amp, with the knobs going to 20 (GW2), although Nigel says the company later gave him a special model that goes to infinity (complete with the infinity symbol—an eight on its side—and a dial that keeps spinning around as if it were broken). (EW) The company also makes faceplates for all of its amp models that go to 11. In a 1984 interview, Nigel revealed that his Gibson guitar pickups were modified to go to 11, as well—meaning that with both his amp and guitar turned all the way up, he could hit 22. (GP) A T-shirt that reads "Goes to 11" is now a collector's item because it sold so poorly immediately after DiBergi's film was released. Finally, a posting to the Internet group alt.fan.spinal-tap by Ray Abbitt shed some light on the history of powered amps: "Early Fender Champs (a small, low-powered amp, probably intended for practice) had no controls except for a volume control that went to 11. And from about 5 on up, they didn't get any louder—just more distorted. A number of artists use them for recording and some (including Neil Young) use them for live performances. Most of us who are lucky enough to own one (mine was built in 1953 or 1954) turn them up to 11 cause they sound so darn good." Nigel's now famous phrase have even been recognized by the Oxford English Dictionary. troutfiend1985
No I am not. I am still pre law but have been kicking around the idea of going another route lately. My wife is 3 semesters away from dental school at UMKC barring an epic fail on her DAT in December. I usually only carry 9 hours/semester and work full time and she carries ~21/semester and doesn't work so even though I graduated '07 and her '08 she is well ahead of me and is slated to be nearly done with dental school by the time I start law school. '85 would put you at L2 or L3 right??? 2L, yes sir. If I may offer some unsolicited advice, Law School=Hell. Top 3 reasons not to go to law school: 1. To get rich. 2. Because you have no other options(you always have other options). 3. To change the world. Now, if law school is your dream, go for it. But, if your reasons for going to law school are one of the above, you might want to think about it a little more. Now this is only my opinion based on my experiences, but if you ever want to talk about what law school really is and what the law schools are not telling you during the admissions process, PM me. Eric, if you think you can't get through law school on "crack(rap)" then I have a good story. Last semester I saw a girl in her car smoking a joint right before our contracts midterm. I couldn't believe it, there is no way I could even imagine drinking a beer before finishing my homework, and this girl thinks she can smoke a test after smoking a joint? She ended up passing, although it was a D- (schwiiing and a miss, waynes world). She's not the only one who gets drunk/high before coming to school, but she’s the only one I know to get high/drunk before a test(especially in law school where a few points can make the difference between a B and a C+). Law school is a cross between animal house and revenge of the nerds: want to see some dorky people partying? There called my "peers." “The greatest menace to freedom is an inert people” J. eric1978
and this girl thinks she can smoke a test after smoking a joint? I gotta say I'm pretty impressed with this chick's lung capacity. Here's my must-have Neil albums list: Neil Young (self-titled first solo album) Everybody Knows this is Nowhere After the Gold Rush Harvest Time Fades Away (good luck finding it) Hawks & Doves Stars & Bars On the Beach Tonight's the Night Comes a Time Old Ways Life Zuma Rust Never Sleeps Live Rust Harvest Moon Unplugged Massey Hall Live in Berlin (DVD) Decade Silver & Gold Looking Forward (what'd I forget?) Plus there's Buffalo Springfield, CSNY, Stills/Young and a bunch more B-grade solo albums.

Greg
Nice thread. I love music and generally like just about anything (rock/pop) from the 60's and 70's. I do like Dave Matthews as well. I also like all types of jazz music. I used to have an intense dislike for country music but as I get older I've developed a taste for that as well. About the only thing I don't like is rap (sorry cricket). If I had to pick on artist or band as an all time favorite it would be the Eagles. Tried to see them when they were in MO last year but it sold out very fast. I do find the drive to and from fishing outings relaxing partially because of the music.
