Anyone ever notice how those on the Faux news side of this always blame Al Gore for global warming?

You take the good you take the bad. He invented the internet and created global warming. Is he the second coming or is he Satan, you be the judge. :huh1:

Since "faux" News isn't so great, I'm curious to hear which news you think is the most correct one and why? I know Fox is right slanted, but what cracks me up is no one will admit that MSNBC is left slanted...answer the question!

All media is bullshit. It's about ratings and money, not what's right and wrong.

In the 70's it was global cooling that was going to kill us all. Another Ice age they said. Now the earth is warming because of the industrialized countries, so we all have to give up our way of life. The earth itself has put more carbon, and pollutants in the atmosphere through volcanoes, and naturally occurring forest fires than man ever has, or ever will. It's all political agenda!!!

I'd like to put my large carbon footprint right up Al Gore's behind!!!

When did the memo go out that its ok to be wrong on every technical point as long as you hate Al Gore?

Gator, you've got bad information here.

Back in the 70s the press made some noise about a coming ice age, but there was no scientific consensus that the planet was about to freeze. There were more papers in the 70s about the general trend toward warmer global temperatures than worries about a cooling planet. That's not the case now. 97% of climatologists currently believe the planet is warming.

You are right that there has always been a lot of carbon moving back and forth on the planet. But we have never had centuries of burning of fossil fuels coupled with the current levels of deforestation. That's completely unique in our history. The people who study those things are fully aware of all these things, and none of that came from Al Gore...

...if your "way of life", can only exist by burning petroleum you'll will be giving that up soon, global warming or no. Crude oil is running out fast.

...guys...forget the press. This isn't a debate between MSNBC and Fox.

If you have ever been interviewed and watched your words get mangled and misinterpreted in the press you know you can't depend on a reporters and TV broadcasters to get this right. Even when their reporting is unbiased, it's often wrong because they don't have an in depth understanding of topic (although some do spend the time to get it right...the Economist is a right leaning magazine that tends to report responsibly on climate change).

Go to the science and the scientists who actually study these things.

Go to the data. Sift the numbers and ask hard questions with an open mind.

Never watched MSNBC except in the evening. Yes it slants to the left.

I don't trust much of any news station cuz they are all slanted one way or the other.

But Faux news is the worst. If they don't have a news story to tell, they make one up.

There's a fine line between fishing and sitting there looking stupid.

I agree with that, but they aren't the worst

Maybe it was in the other global warming thread, but geez, I wish you'd read what's been documented about that 1970s global cooling stuff before repeating the same tired old argument all over again.

And you're mostly wrong on the volcanoes and naturally occurring forest fires. Even if you weren't totally wrong on it, consider this. There is a certain amount of "background" CO2 in the atmosphere all the time. Every critter that breathes air breathes out a certain amount of CO2, and there are lots of other natural sources of CO2. The atmosphere NEEDS a certain amount of CO2 because plants breathe it IN. But here's the important thing...

That "background" level of CO2 in the atmosphere throughout much of human history was around 275 parts per million (yes, CO2 IS a very minor part of the atmosphere by volume) (and we know that figure because we've been able to sample sealed air trapped in ice and age when the ice was formed). So, you could say that throughout the time when our civilization developed, the CO2 level from all those natural forest fires and volcanoes and all the other natural sources was 275 parts per million.

Then along came the industrial revolution and the excavating and burning of all that carbon that had been buried in the ground as coal and oil for millions of years. Not temporarily sequestered in forests, not in the ground in volcanic areas, not dissolved in the oceans, but buried in the earth "permanently"...until we figured out we could get all kinds of good things by digging it up and pumping it out and burning it.

Know what the atmospheric CO2 levels are now? Without any abnormal volcanic activity. With a lot of human burning of forests, to be sure, but mostly because we've burnt all that formerly buried carbon...

390 parts per million.

In a little over 100 years, we've raised atmospheric CO2 levels nearly 50%. And if we keep burning fossil fuels the way we have been, by mid-century we will have DOUBLED the amount of CO2 in the atmosphere. By 2100, if all the countries that pledged to reduce CO2 at the Copenhagen climate conference last year actually kept their pledges and met their goals, we'd STILL have 725 parts per million, according to a bunch of smart guys at MIT.

Not that Gore is relevant to this discussion, and certainly it isn't relevant whether or not he claimed to have invented the internet, but...

He never claimed that. Here's the story from Snopes:
