Secondly, where did this paranoia come from about the private sector? What is wrong with an investor making money on an investment?

Third. How did you get to a place in your life where you can only be happy if your truck has 8 cylinders? If you could still go where you want on 4 cylinders, why are you so committed to 8?

Is the point here that you have control everything before you can do anything?

You’d never put on a seat belt if that made any sense.

If you are selling apples and you fund a study ultimatly determining that apples are a preventative medicine to all kinds of aliments and then get policy changes that lead to us all having to consume apples I would say there is an underlying fraud to sell apples if that is what you are asking.

Secondly if you believe in free markets as I do then you wouldn't have to have policy to lead you to a crappy volt car. The price of gas would get so high that on my own I would want a crappy volt or prius or "widget car" (I don't need a car debate here).

So what If I like 8, 10, 12 or 24 cylinders. Its what makes me happy and free and who are you or anyone else to tell me I can't be.

Thirdly, as a proponent of population control and the fact I think governement has no place in my car you shouldn't be required to wear a selt belt or helmet.

Ha Ha. Yes I am a Pro-Life Conservative.

I know...I couldn't resist pointing out how that position is in direct conflict with your overpopulation concerns. Just sayin'. wink.gif

they do get annoying....however I am keeping mine so no one forgets what kind of person you are. blur.gif

What, a progressive? I'm pretty sure they've figured it out.

Do what you want, but it's old, dude. It's really old.

Honestly I'm tired of any social policy period. I don't care about abortion or who marry's who or any of that junk. Get the country back to work and solvent and out of my freedoms and happiness and I could care less about the rest.

Ha Ha. Yes I am a Pro-Life Conservative. That being said I don't think I have a right to tell others what they should choose. You thought you would get me crawdading on this one didn't you.

Being pro-life is telling others how they should choose.

Choice. Soon to be another one of those lost liberties that some gripe about.

There's a fine line between fishing and sitting there looking stupid.

If you read into what I said earlier you would have gotten that I myself wouldn't have abortions hence "I" am a "pro-life conservative" but politically I don't care.

This sounds EXACTLY like something you'd hear from a spoiled, snotty sixteen year old girl.

Way to make it personal Bend...your approach is beyond reproach.

I know it's hard for some people to understand the U.S Constitution.

First, The people researching climate aren't also researching or selling alternative energy. You're lumping them all together into one big bag of "people I don't know and who are therefore evil and out to get me". There is NO payoff for a scientist to promote false findings. It ENDS their career. IMMEDIATELY.

Secondly, markets are not and should not be completely free. If you think completely free markets are the way to go, you also believe it's ok to allow human slavery, child pornography, trade in nuclear weapons, murder for hire, unregulated pollution, toxic streams, dead fish, and anarchy. The government has a appropriate role in regulating markets and ensuring they work to the general good.

That's the same reason the government funds basic research, much of that exists to find out what changes or opportunities might be coming and then allow the markets to capitalize on them. Individual companies can't make a buck on that stuff even though they collectively benefit from the findings. That's why government is often/usually the driver subsidizing new technologies (as they have with nuclear power, the Volt and others), so that when those changes come, society and markets have some resources available to deal with them.

You can sit on the sidelines and assume all of that is happening so some far off boogie man can enslave you, or you can conclude its the normal function of society and participate...hopefully beginning with an actual mastery of the facts and data surrounding global warming.

Third, the point about seat belts had nothing to do with government regulations (even though the government does require you to use them). You're missing the point. Seat belts are a logical decision to minimize risks even when you can't control all the risk you will encounter. As you acknowledge, you're better off with them than without them.
