Tim Smith Posted January 4, 2011 Posted January 4, 2011 Quote Like MC Hammer or Frank Sinatra . . . he never concerned himself with the the type of company he kept, which didn't help in the topsy turvy, drug and alcohol fueled television fishing show industry of the late 60s and 70s. Fame and fortune were never his to enjoy here in this country even though his shows are still in syndication in Japan and he is wildly popular in North Korea where he is a worshipped as a demi-God to this day. He now spends his time in seclusion, splitting his time between incarceration, strip bars, and the wooded hillsides of Dent, Taney, and Oregon counties. Occasionally he is recognized purchasing Tito's and Dunhill's at convenience stores along the lonely by-ways of this great state. And is gone as quickly as he appeared. Were there groupies?
Martin Posted January 4, 2011 Posted January 4, 2011 LOL .... Question from an old he!! raiser. There is something that doesn't seem quite right with the words, "topsy-turvy, drug and alcohol fueled television fishing show industry"...... I mean, how bad could it have been.......lol... (we need a good laugh icon)... Virgil Ward was from Amsterdam, Missouri, not exactly the crime capitol of the USA.. and Harold Endsley was a preacher on the side. I think a Baptist preacher at that. Drug and alcohol fueled ?? I doubt it.

Like when Harold Endsley used to eat at a stake or barbecue place in Martin city...long ago...memories.... http://s147.photobucket.com/albums/r302/scrawford_photos/

I remember he was down on Table Rock when we were there once, and the whole place was buzzing about it. Lots of snickers and whispering among the adults. My parents would never talk about it though. Guys if memory serves me right I believe ColdWaterFshr is Paul Dallas ! Just saying........ Anyone remember the RAYO BRECKENRIDGE Hometown: PARAGOULD, AR ... Classic Titles: 1 Times in the Classic: 6 Times in the Money He had a TV show for about 5 years out of Arkansas. Fished the Oxbows for Bass, Crappie, What ever was biting. Take a Child Fishing they are the future of the sport.
Al Agnew Posted February 24, 2011 Posted February 24, 2011 No, ColdWaterFshr is not Paul Dallas...the story is much more complicated than that. There WERE groupies in Dallas' entourage, and it finally got to the point where irate parents, boyfriends, etc. were hiring interventionists to try to draw various young women with dreams of casting rods away from Mr. Dallas. Many were convinced that he was starting a cult. So Dallas told his publicist to seek out somebody who had more than a passing resemblance to him to hire as a double. The publicist found ColdWaterFsher. For several years during Dallas's heyday as the guru of TV fishevangelists, ColdWaterFsher actually made all his public appearances. Because of ColdWaterFshr's upbringing--he was a true straight arrow with strict Presbyterian parents--he was able to convince the various private detectives, exorcists, vice cops, and Mossad agents that their fears and suspicions about Paul Dallas were unfounded. Unfortunately, it all came crashing down when ColdWaterFsher became enamored with fly fishing. Back in those days, Dallas's fans were definitely not fly fishermen. When Dallas was apparently seen on several occasions waving the long rod on the Current and North Fork, they became disillusioned with him, and there was no way at that point that he could convince them that it was not him but his double. Meanwhile, ColdWaterFsher had become disillusioned himself--the temptations of the fast life were getting more difficult to resist, and now he had rednecks beginning to laugh at him because of his love of fly tying and McCloud rainbows. So he shaved his mustache, dyed his hair, and parted ways with Dallas. Dallas, meanwhile, had a brief fling with NASCAR, even offering to sponsor a NASCAR driver to repair his fading image. But alas, his idea came just a few years too soon--or maybe it was because the only driver that would accept his sponsorship was blind in one eye and had trouble with depth perception. The walls always looked a little farther away than what they really were. It got to where it cost so much to continually repaint the Dallas logo on the car after every crash that Dallas gave it up as a lost cause, and that's when he finally faded into relative obscurity.
ness Posted February 24, 2011 Posted February 24, 2011 Hmmm. I didn't know he used to have a mustache. John
ColdWaterFshr Posted February 24, 2011 Posted February 24, 2011 Oh, geez. It was the 70s man, we all had staches.

Is Ned Reynolds the guy that used to be Virgil Ward's announcer/add man on his old TV show. Sure looks, and sounds like I remember him. Just thought he would be much older! His announcer was Fred Everett, from Kansas City (WDAF Radio I believe). I worked at KY3 back when Virgil Ward taped his shows there. Long time ago in the late 60's-early 70's. Ned may have done a few spots for him but he was the Sports anchor when I was there.
