Jeff is definitely more educated than I am. I catch two species of fish on the NFOW trout and not trout. I have bveen saving up my cabelas bucks for a rod similar to the one you described. I think it would be the perfect setup on the NFOW. Thanks for the report.

The 11' 3wt......TASTY! I am yet to fish that one. Fished Kyles 13' Tenkara and could have fallen in love except still freaked out about not having a reel. It's very true that most of the time you are going to get into "dinks" when you are Euro nymphing---but then you get into something a little better and a reel immediately becomes a necessity. :) Got a 19" brown not 10' from me in less than a foot of water while Czech nymphing this fall....the reel was handy on that one!

Good to hear you did well Jeff. You fishing slinky's, sighters or just a straight-line?

Fished a 2 color sighter from the Cz Republic(Siman).......Have fished the slinky on Bull Shoals and Beaver.....A great 45deg up to down method....They would work at NFOW but I was in a hurry to see as much as possible in the short time I had at the River.....The 11 ft Greys will be a weapon on BS very soon for me....Also think a great small indie/midge rod on the tailwaters.....It was plenty stiff for the Rubber Legs/Czech fies setup.....not whippy at all......Euro fishing seems to be set up for numbers over size as a rule.....my thoughts on Euro Nymphing liking the numbers suits me.....Merry Christmas to all of you

I just got a 10 ft. 4 Greys for the Euro Nymphing setup. New to that gig so I hope I didn't screw up buying a 10 instead of 11

Dunno...I popped for a 10' 5wt Z-Axis just before the Grey's rods hit the market....I've been very happy with it on the NFoW, but I might add a Grey's when I get around too it.

Luvn my 11'r.......The Z is a little fast for Euro but is great for deepwater nymphing.......I love the 5 for big indies on the big water here on the White....The Greys can be had for $179 as they are on sale........Got four in the stable(three 3wts and a 4).....I'll post more on the 11'r as I plan to fish low water on BS Tailwater tomorrow.....Either Euro or indie/midge depending on water levels

Yeah, the 10' Z 5wt is great for thingamabobbering with big flies and a ton of weight...I'd be interested to hear about your 11'er and how your applying Euro methods to fishing in the Ozarks...leader, weight & fly setups..Havent read much into it, but some of it sounds like what Joe Humphrey's put in his book years ago..Will look for your report.

I'm in the market for either the Z or Gloomis Streamdance GLX HLS for high-water fishing the tailwaters.

Did you cast both of these models Gavin?

I typically like a little slower rod for everyday fishing, but boat fishing with 14 foot leaders and three indies to keep the heavy rig floating is a different animal.

I've never messed with the Streamdance Series from Loomis, but my 10' 5wt Z gets the job done..The factory rod comes with a little half wells and no fighting butt, so I had Tom Hargrove wrap it to my specifications...Full wells, amboyna burl seat, fighting butt, and oversized guides (same sizes they use on the 10' 7wt Z axis). Its great for roll & switch casting with a big bobber, lots of shot...up to 3SG's (maybe a bit more) and a couple of heavy stonefly nymphs...Good overhead to, but I like my 9' 7wt BIIX better for streamer fishing. Its been a great replacement for my 9' 6" T&T 8wt that I used to be my primary NFoW stick.

Most fly shops dont carry allot of 10' rods...Your welcome to cast it if you want, or have Jack Birkner drop one by FC or Tommy's for a test drive...The 9' 6" 5wt Z was just OK...but the 9' 6" 4wt Z was really nice.
