Members Wesley Posted December 28, 2010 Members Posted December 28, 2010 I also considered buying a camera. But how far can you see in Table Rock Lake? Is it worth the money. Do you actually see any Fish?
Sam Posted December 28, 2010 Posted December 28, 2010 But how far can you see in Table Rock Lake? That's my question. Swimming in Tablerock in the warmer months I've opened my eyes underwater and never been able to see more than a few feet. The water gets real clear in mid-winter, and you can see your lure and line 10 or 12 feet under the boat. But shallow-water fishing is real tough then, the bass are usually on the bottom in 50 feet or more, and I wouldn't think there'd be much light that deep. Someone who dives in the lake could tell us for sure, but my guess is that a camera wouldn't see much in Tablerock.
Outside Bend Posted December 28, 2010 Posted December 28, 2010 I've done some summertime diving in Table Rock, and when you get to about 20-25 feet visibility is practically zero. Unless the camera has some serious lighting you're talking about a field of view measured in inches. If it were me, I'd probably save up for a decent sonar rig. <{{{><
Sore Thumbs Posted December 28, 2010 Posted December 28, 2010 You can see fish with them under docks and logs etc. The only thing that needs to be added to the kit is a long rod to attach the camera to. The way it comes new has no way to point the camera at what you want to look at. It just free falls. We used one on Beaver and you can see fairly well with it when the water is clear. If they aren't too expensive it is a nice little tool to have.

mclothier1 Posted December 29, 2010 Posted December 29, 2010 I bought the Cabela's version and used it on my last trip to TR. Mostly used it under the dock and I thought it was amazing... We saw Bass, Crappie, Bluegill, Gar, White bass, Carp, Catfish, Crawdads, And I think Walleye, and this was just under the dock! The camera comes with infared lighting, but we had better luck with it in the daytime. Tried it at night and the infared indeed lights everything up but it also illuminates all the small particles in the water making things very hard to see unless really close. Daytime visibility seemed to be much better. at around 30' depth We could see probably 6' I was even able to find and retrieve two fishing poles and a pair of sunglasses. One of the poles was thrown in the lake by my bro-in-law a year ago, I retrieved it and wrapped it up for his Christmas present! The camera was also a big help in locating a sunken brushpile under the dock which we always seemed to get snagged on... we figured out exactly where we could drop our baits where we didnt get snagged, and you wouldnt believe all the fish holding in those brushpiles! All in all it is a neat toy, I hope to use it more on the next trip in June. I also want to use it from the boat to actually help see the structure and see what fish are holding in certain locations. And it does not appear to spook the fish. Most fish we saw were very curious and came right up to the camera. Might even attach a nightcrawler to it for more fun! Nothing beats a good sonar though! especially one that also has the ability to show your lure.
Billfo Posted December 30, 2010 Author Posted December 30, 2010 Yup, Sounds like a fun toy- not so much to find fish. Wonder how many sets of keys, tackle boxes & rods are under MY dock ! Dont know about the rechargeable battery it comes with. Id rather like to have a 12 volt plug. The Corp Of Engineer guy showed me my "marker" which in September was in about 1 foot of water. A couple of weeks ago the water was at least 20 from the marker (linear not deep). It was interesting so see what use to be underwater in my backyard. Maybe I will be able to see more with the TV.. Just the curiosity of wondering what's right under the dock or on the bottom around the docks; always pecks at me? - It's interesting that the fish are not bothered by the camera. I thought they would be, but the more I think about it; that makes sense. Because as a kid, we would swim underwater with masks on, and be able to swim right up on fish; and they would not spook. But, when they saw us up on shore/dock/the surface..........POOF! They were gone.
Stump bumper Posted December 30, 2010 Posted December 30, 2010 I have had one for over a year, have used it only a handful of times. It has 6 c cell batteries that don't last long along with a 12v adapter that works much better. You can see fish real good but scale is the problem, how far the fish is from the camara or which direction the camera is pointing is really hard to tell. Sometimes I can see from the front of the dock to the back, sometimes I can't see 5ft. I can point down toward the bottom and think I am looking at 10 ft of the bottom then lower it 6 inches and drug mud, so those big bolders I thought I was checking out turned out to be little rocks close to the camera. I paid $100 for mine and would take a $50 bill any time, it has been fun a few times but would not call it a useful tool. I have had several people fish with me, try it out for about 5 min then decide they didn't need thier own. I could see where it would be more useful from a dock or ice fishing then from the boat.
