jdmidwest Posted December 31, 2010 Posted December 31, 2010 8 Botched Environmental Forecasts from olden days... Looks like some of the forecasts did not really take the reality tour. Happy New Year. 2011= year of truth. "Life has become immeasurably better since I have been forced to stop taking it seriously." — Hunter S. Thompson
flytyer57 Posted December 31, 2010 Posted December 31, 2010 Looks like some of the forecasts did not really take the reality tour. Happy New Year. 2011= year of truth. I guess I should have checked that link b4 I wasted my precious time opening anything from that totally non-scientific biased source. There's a fine line between fishing and sitting there looking stupid.
Outside Bend Posted December 31, 2010 Posted December 31, 2010 My favorite was #5: 5. "By 1985, air pollution will have reduced the amount of sunlight reaching earth by one half." Life magazine, January 1970. Life Magazine also noted that some people disagree, "but scientists have solid experimental and historical evidence to support each of the following predictions." Air quality has actually improved since 1970. Studies find that sunlight reaching the Earth fell by somewhere between 3 and 5 percent over the period in question. I'm sure, being the bastions of journalism they are, the folks at FOX News simply forgot that anti pollution legislation like the Clean Air act would render such predictions inaccurate. They want you to take the bait, without stopping to think that a statement like that says more about the ignorance (perhaps malfeasance is a better word) of the folks at FOX News than of the scientists they're trying to portray as inept. FOX relies on people not being able to think for themselves. That's their bread and butter. This article is a prime eample. <{{{><

flytyer57 Posted December 31, 2010 Posted December 31, 2010 Just drink the koolaid and simmer down, we will survive this global onslaught.... The planet might survive, but man will not. There's a fine line between fishing and sitting there looking stupid.
gotmuddy Posted December 31, 2010 Posted December 31, 2010 The planet might survive, but man will not. the planet will survive, there is no doubt. Here is my biggest problem, in a 30 year span the scientific consensus has gone from cooling, to warming, to just saying that its changing. Its the same with eggs, when I was a kid they were bad for you, then they were good, then they were bad, and I think they are good again. everything in this post is purely opinion and is said to annoy you.
jdmidwest Posted December 31, 2010 Author Posted December 31, 2010 The planet might survive, but man will not. Who cares if man survives, I thought you guys were out to save the planet!!! Man is a species involved in evolution, there is no assurance we are to survive the next step in the grand scheme of planet earth. Outside Bend Posted December 31, 2010 Posted December 31, 2010 Just drink the koolaid and simmer down, we will survive this global onslaught.... You buy into a provably misleading article by a disreputable source, and yet everyone else is drinking the Kool-Aid? <{{{><
