jtram Posted January 2, 2011 Posted January 2, 2011 I was curious as to whether anyone had heard a decent reason as to why Capps Creek has not been turned into a blue ribbon trout stream. I have fished Capps for quite a while and regularly catch 4 to 8 inch par marked rainbows and even a couple baby browns well after stockings. I think the creek could become an even better fishery if regulations were changed to keep the fish from getting raped by the catch and keep fishermen. I have no problem with keeping a limit when it is allowed but it still makes me sick to see limit after limit of fish pulled within hours of the truck leaving. Just my small rant of frustration.

WE've had some pretty long and detailed conversations on topics very similar to this in the past. I don't know if Capps could be an all out blue ribbon stream, but it would seem that a C&R zone would be worthwhile. No use beating a dead horse here, I think that you can find some discussion on one of the old posts. “The greatest menace to freedom is an inert people” J. Brandeis
ollie Posted January 5, 2011 Posted January 5, 2011 One thing I DO know for sure is that there is talk of at least extending the size of browns to be kept to 18" and only one in possesion. Right now you can keep 4 browns as long as they are over 15". Problem with that is the designation of white ribbon stream and what the definition of that is. MDC is trying to keep it simple all across the board when referring to white ribbon streams. It gets confusing with different regs in place for differnet streams. Look at Hickory for instance. White ribbon, but you can't keep any from Nov. till March. On other white ribbon streams you can keep all year long. See what I mean? "you can always beat the keeper, but you can never beat the post" There are only three things in life that are certain : death, taxes, and the wind blowing at Capps Creek!
