bigredbirdfan Posted January 10, 2011 Posted January 10, 2011 All age are having budget problems and the MDC is no exception. I can't understand why anyone would complain about saving money on paper, given the fact we can't hunt it, fish for it or eat it! I'm not complaining I'm pointing out that usually changes are made in the name of "cost savings" yet the "user" never gets back the savings that are the justification for making the change. I understand it's not much more than an oversized annoying yellow sticker. The banks do the same thing. Go paper less and pass none of the massive savings back to the customer.

Lets hope its for a more admirable reason. Maybe its to keep the level of service the same instead of having to cut any. Dano Glass Has Class "from the laid back lane in the Arkansas Ozarks"

Dano If it allows them to keep the current license pricing for a few more years, then it may be worth it. I just hope they scale it down to an easy to carry size. The last Illinois fishing license I printed took up the whole sheet of paper and I was glad I only needed it for a week. The upside to online is you can print a license at the spur of the moment like I did. We made the call to fish Illinois late one night and there are no license vendors between where I was and where we were going, so it was handy. Are you saying you want the MDC to write you a check for your share of the savings??? I don't know if I am on board with this or not yet. I guess I will have to reserve my opinion until I see and actually use it. I am surprised though JD that you seem to be very positive of it????? I am only positive if it comes out to be something that will be easily sized to fit in a wallet. If it helps MDC keep license cost low, I am all for it. But if it turns out to be a big piece of paper I will have to carry in an 8x10 frame while out on the water, I will spend some time with the copier shrinking it to the point it will fit and the agent will have to carry a microscope. eric1978 Posted January 11, 2011 Posted January 11, 2011 OMG I can't believe this thread has gone three pages. WHO CARES?!?! It's a license...buy it, laminate it, stick it in a ziplock, stuff it in your pack. Whatever. What's the big deal? And BRBF...since when has ANY entity, government or private, passed on its savings to the consumer? NEVER! If they told you they did and you believed them, you were duped.
Snow Fly Posted January 11, 2011 Posted January 11, 2011 Bought my new license last week and it still is on the yellow water proof paper, so I guess the new stuff comes later........ "God gave fishermen expectancy, so they would never tire of throwing out a line"
jdmidwest Posted January 11, 2011 Author Posted January 11, 2011 Phase out of Yellow starts after March 1, probably later. MDC E Permits "Life has become immeasurably better since I have been forced to stop taking it seriously." — Hunter S. Thompson
Buzz Posted January 11, 2011 Posted January 11, 2011 I just checked the link JD provided. It appears that not only do I have the ability to purchase my fishing license and trout tag I get to pay MDC a fee of $2.00 for the convenience of doing so. Then I have to get it laminated to protect it. If they are selling nearly 1,000,000 licenses per year( online) that amounts to quite a chunk of change. Not to mention the $50,000 that they will save by going to the E- permits. Don't get me wrong, I have never complained about the increases they have done over the years, but I'm not liking this very much. I think I'll just run down to my local Wal-mart and let the guy who knows nothing about hunting or fishing try to figure out how to print my license on the vinyl at least one more time. https://www3.wildlifelicense.com/mo/start.php If fishing was easy it would be called catching.
Danoinark Posted January 11, 2011 Posted January 11, 2011 The FAQ page says you can print on your own paper, but will look like the old yellow ones What will be different about fishing permits bought through e-Permits? Permits will continue to look the same, but anglers will print them on their home printers using regular printer paper instead of traditional yellow permit stock. and the price drops to 1 dollar to do so Will e-Permits carry a "convenience fee" for purchasing online? Beginning March 1, 2011, the date e-Permits goes into effect, the convenience fee for purchasing permits online will drop from $2 to $1.
