laker67 Posted January 19, 2011 Posted January 19, 2011 On this point I'm not trying to be argumentative it's just an honest question, Why don't we use the strain that Arkansas uses? Is there a reason, like the strain wouldn't adapt well to Missouri waters? I see your point on the "sky is blue" issue. I was merely trying to point out that missouri is capable of producing large fish. I guess a record is all in the eye of the beholder. And not trying to be agrumentive in response to your question. On one of the mdc websites, they addressed this very issue. They stocked the german for a few years, then finally settled on the sheepcreek strain because it had a much better survival rate, once they were released. Google, brown trout in missouri. It appears that ark,mo,utah, and even argentina will be taking a back seat to michigan's new strain of brown trout. Two 41 pounders in as many years, and they were only six years old. Rip's fish was 17 years old. No management there, just turn them loose and they grow big.
Justin Spencer Posted January 19, 2011 Posted January 19, 2011 it would be nice to at least see C&R regulations on blue ribbon streams If you don't think that 1-18 inch fish per day is a nice way of saying catch and release than you are a much better fisherman than I. I bet the number of 18" fish taken legally out of blue ribbon streams per year could be counted on two hands or less (per stream). Next time you think you have an 18" fish put a tape on it, I bet you'll be surprised that it's not quite that big. Those fish are going to grow LARGE. I know WI has stocked the seeforellen brown trout in Lake Michigan and I'm sure Michigan has too. Those fish are known to grow big real fast. There's a fine line between fishing and sitting there looking stupid.
bigredbirdfan Posted January 19, 2011 Posted January 19, 2011 Well, if it's more progressive government regulations that BRBF wants, then I for one am with him on that. But I don't think that's the case. He just wants to slam MDC simply because it exists as a government entity, and point out what a crooked, bureaucratic mess it is in order to fit it neatly into his unflinching negative opinion of government in general. You know what I also look forward to? When the newly elected MO State Legislature enacts a state wide sales tax system replacing the income tax and I buy all my goods in Arkansas and Oklahoma and online and cut off my sales tax money to MDC. What do you think about that possiblity?
Justin Spencer Posted January 19, 2011 Posted January 19, 2011 When you talk about management usually there is a choice between managing for "trophies" or managing for numbers. I would say the food source and habitat has more to do with the Michigan browns fast growth than does the strain. This strain may grow well in MI, but bring it here and it may flop. bigredbirdfan Posted January 19, 2011 Posted January 19, 2011 Asking you to elaborate is not arguing. It is asking for some type of fact that which you have never produced in any discussion of any subject. If you want to continue to make wild, wanton, and false accusations against the MDC, then you need to expect those with the opposite view to respond. http://www.agfc.com/fishing/Pages/FishingProgramsBBP.aspx

chub minnow Posted January 19, 2011 Posted January 19, 2011 They check your ID at the same time as license (trust me), so you can't give it to a buddy (unless he looks like you and has your ID). If you don't have ID and can't recite SS#, you are going to get a ticket no matter what fishing license you have.
