lee G. Posted January 25, 2011 Posted January 25, 2011 Surely there are some eddy's that are over 20 ft deep, they were when I was a kid. Dont tell me they have filled in that much !!! Anyone know how Turner and Calason eddys are today?
Bill B. Posted January 25, 2011 Posted January 25, 2011 Actually they can go past tunnel dam around 5 mile slough. At the end of that journey they reach the spillway below tunnel dam lake. I don't think they are capable of going up the spillway like trout and salmon. The spillway IS Tunnel Dam. The dam backs up water to cover the generator-tunnel entrance in the side of the hill.
Goggle-Eyed Posted January 25, 2011 Posted January 25, 2011 Walleye do make it is as far up as the spillway of tunnel dam. if you were to put your boat in there, you could float down stream to the "whistle" a low water crossing that now has a bridge tall enough you can float under it. From there you float down to the "power house" this is where the water from tunnel lake returns to the river. From there you float down to Susy rock on the left. From there you float down to "casa de loco" winery on the left (another good walley spot). from there you would continue on down to the Lake and then on to Ha Ha Tonka. There have been stories of Walleye being caught above Tunnel dam but it has been many many years and mostly by accident. I have never personally targeted walleye above the dam and doubt that there are many if any left. I have however caught Trout as far down as the second lead mine access... Wasn't targeting them either but did catch ONE. Hope this helps. Joe

Well you are right in that respect. The locals have always referred to the generation tunnel as a reference, or a starting point, to tunnel dam, and then came the spillway at the end of five mile slough. Kdan and I catch all of our walleye at the generation tunnel.
Bill B. Posted January 26, 2011 Posted January 26, 2011 I've caught walleye at the spillway during high water in March and April, but it takes a pretty good flow to pull them up there. I've also caught skinny rainbow trout at the spillway once or twice, always early in the spring. Never have fished in Lake Niangua. I wonder how badly it's silted in?

Anyone know how Turner and Calason eddys are today? I can't think of anything that's 20 foot deep now, but I haven't hit the whole river in a while. Most of the good holes I know of have been reduced to about half the depth. Today's release is tomorrows gift to another fisherman.
Members Newbie Fly Posted January 26, 2011 Members Posted January 26, 2011 I too, last summer caught a few walleye on the Niangua but nothing of the sizes mentioned (2 to 10lbs?) I could only measure than in inches I would love to see a picture of 10lb walleye from the Niangua as thats trophy size even for Quebec lake!!!! " I fish therefore I am"

If you go to Van Hooks bait shop there is a photo of a guy with a walleye that weighs, Im assuming, heavier the 15 lbs.. thing had a huge fat gut on it that the angler supposedly caught at suzy hole..
