RSBreth Posted January 25, 2011 Posted January 25, 2011 I used to think that it didn't matter what I used either ... If you think that's what I was trying to say I wasn't clear. If one day a #10 Husky Jerk works better than a Pointer or an Ima (or even the Megabass) - it's clearly the better lure - at that time. If the Megabass is the "one" that day, then yeah, it's better - that day. Just don't fall into the trap of thinking a certain lure is magic - then you quit looking for the better lure for any situation - no matter the price.

getfished Posted January 25, 2011 Posted January 25, 2011 I do think there are times one brand may elicit more response from the fish than other brands. However, the movement of the Mega bass is in my opinion what sets it apart from the others. For choosing my favorite color I like Wakin Reaction. Or else I just close my eyes and point. http://www.tacklespecialty.com/
Skeeter ZX190 Posted January 25, 2011 Posted January 25, 2011 I have 3 Megabass colors. KBG, Pro Blue, and Triple Illusion. I've caught more fish on the KBG, but the last time I was out, the Triple Illusion out produced. I just keep rotating until I get a sense of what the fish want. Haven't had any trouble with the lures themselves. I tend to be "hard headed" and maybe Lucky Craft or McSticks are just as good, but I am going to go with the one who brung me. I like the way a Megabass throws, and I have had good success with them.
Champ188 Posted January 26, 2011 Posted January 26, 2011 I think there's a natural resistance to higher-priced lures. None of us wants to pay $25 for a jerk bait, including myself. But the fact is, that's the price and no amount of complaining is going to change it. Frankly, those who are setting the prices know that their target market will likely buy them no matter the price. This isn't gasoline, groceries or clothing. You don't have to buy them. If $25 for a Megabass is too much, buy a McStick for $15. If that's too much, buy an X-Rap for $8. If that's too much, buy a Suspending Rogue at Wal-Mart for $5. If that's too much, buy a H2O at Academy for $3. One may be best on a certain day, yes. But fact is, the better the quality of the lure, the more fish it's going to catch in the long run. There's nearly always a bit of truth in "You get what you pay for."

I haven't found that, maybe it is because I throw one more than the other, I have all of the above in my jerkbait box plus the jane netcraft lures and I catch more fish with the Netcraft $3 than the $12 McStick (unless you count stripers) and I catch a lot more off the H2O than the rouges or X-raps(never have caught a fish off the deep diving X-raps and have all the colors). So with a box full of jerkbaits and higher priced ones getting the less workout it is hard for me to try out a $25 bait when I have two big boxes already too full of jerkbaits it might be the jerkbait I have seached for, but with that price I won't try it, won't get hooked and they have lost the busniess of a coustmer who buys way too many lures on impulse. You left out Jackall out for $15 to $20 and they don't see the working end of the my line much either.JMO As far as colors I like the clear painted jerbaits rather than the foil raped version of any jerkbait and if was me I would try to fill a gap I didn't have already for me right now that is a pink back 78.
