dwiebenga Posted January 27, 2011 Posted January 27, 2011 Hey all, I am trying to find a kit for fizzing deep bass. Does anyone have a recommendation? thank you in advance Dave
dtrs5kprs Posted January 27, 2011 Posted January 27, 2011 This is the easiest I have found: http://www.tacklewarehouse.com/Bends_Mender_Deflator_Needle/descpage-BMDNP.html http://www.basstackledepot.com/bendsmender.aspx Mouth method is much easier than counting scales, and faster. Cheap and it works, have even used it to fizz a couple of 17"-18" whites I did not want to see floating.
steveearle Posted January 27, 2011 Posted January 27, 2011 I've used the Bendsmender a lot and it works well. More expensive that medical needles, which I have also, but for convenience and handling the Bendsmender is the best I've used.
motoman Posted January 27, 2011 Posted January 27, 2011 Anyone ever try the Flip Clips? - http://www.flipclipfishing.com/ - I have no 'dog-in-the-hunt' with this company, just an interestingly simple concept. I bought some, but haven't caught deep fish, needing fizzing since having them. I've read a lot of positive things on other message boards. From what appear to be unbiased members. - Anything less invasive (and simpler)than fizzing, seems the way to go. - I think I've posted this before here; but no one offered any feedback.
dtrs5kprs Posted January 27, 2011 Posted January 27, 2011 Have seen those but passed b/c I wasn't sure how they would address the overinflated bladder. Most of the fish I have caught from around 30' and deeper have not so much struggled to right themselves, but basically rolled over and floated with barely moving fins until fizzed. Somehow you have to get the air out of them.
Members single spin Posted January 30, 2011 Members Posted January 30, 2011 motoman, have not tried the flip clips, but after your last post about them I looked them up and made my own out of small alligator clips and 3/4 oz weights. They seem to work pretty good for us last summer/ fall. When the fish are having bladder problems or are wounded, I keep adding clips until they set up straight. I belive that it calms the fish also. I had really good luck with mortality and it seemed as if our fish would swim off really well after release. The fish we were catching were coming out of 35-40, I do not know how well this works for fish deeper than that. I only tried this because I suck at sticking them with needles. Hope this helps ss

I use them and they have always worked, takes some time in a cool well aired livewell. I have had some bad results fizzing since I do it so little and have had trouble finding help on some lakes getting other anglers to do it for me. The flip clips don't work on fish I have tried to rescue at weigh ins that were left in livewells for hours with no treatment and left floating at the weigh in were I think a good fizzer could have saved them.
Members innova Posted January 30, 2011 Members Posted January 30, 2011 Here is a way to build a simple and alternative to fizzing fish. Materials needed: 1 round plastic laundry basket 1 75 nylon cord 4 4 ounce round lead weights (larger weights work better) Attach the weights equal distances around the top of the laundry basket. Turn the basket upside down and poke a hole through the center of the basket and attach the nylon cord. How to operate: If a fish floats when released cover with the basket and let the basket sink while holding onto the nylon cord.

Gla to hear you had some good results with them. - For the average angler, I think fizzing a fish would be very foreign to most; if not intimidating. I think anyone fishing deep water should be familiar (myself included), but I've always had a heckuva time the few times I've tried fizzing. I was always afraid I'd do more harm than good. Any sort of simple alternative for the lay-person, that reduces fish mortality sounds good to me!
