eric1978 Posted February 1, 2011 Author Posted February 1, 2011 Also, with the GoPro by the time you add an LCD screen and all of the other needed accessories you might as well buy a DSLR that shoots in 1080 and a waterproof case (with extended warranty of course ). Yeah, I sure wish they would have just incorporated the LCD into the GoPro design...it really will be a cube if you attach the piggy-back. But I still think I'm leaning towards the GP, because right now I'm more interested in video than stills. I found the GP Motorsports on ebay for $225, and I'm pretty close to buying after flipping the couch cushions about a dozen times.
Trout Commander Posted February 1, 2011 Posted February 1, 2011 If I had deep pockets I would get one in line with the Pentax and a GoPro BOTH. But I don't Eric, you think it might pay off to wait for the new model of GoPro to come out? Dollars to donuts says it has a built in LCD. You might get some info if you shoot em an e-mail and ask if one is in the works? I have spent most of my money on fly fishing and beer. The rest I just wasted. ollie Posted February 1, 2011 Posted February 1, 2011 Here is a still photo I took of Hickory Creek a few weeks ago with my gopro. I did have to resize it to fit it to the website. ColdWaterFshr Posted February 1, 2011 Posted February 1, 2011 Nice picture, Ollie. I have the Pentax Optio something or other for several years now. I think its the 6 mp one. Great little camera that takes great pictures and suffers considerable abuse in my hands. Batteries last long. Best camera I've ever owned.

Yeah, I'm sure they'll make it a feature on the next model as soon as I buy the old one, and I'd wait for it if I had been born with the virtue of patience...alas, I was not. I resized your photo again, Ollie. It's a nice pic...obviously not the crispest shot in the world (good enough for me, though). I think there's a lot of luck involved in taking stills with the GoPro. But with the 2/5/10/30 second automatic shots, you can just let 'er rip automatically and you'll probably get a few out of each group that look good. I've been scouring the net for stills taken with a GoPro, and some of them turn out spectacular. But again, I'm more interested in the video features anyway, and the GoPro footage is obviously killer.
Stoneroller Posted February 1, 2011 Posted February 1, 2011 where do you get that gopro is coming out with a new camera? That's not part of their plan, for at least the next 2 or 3 years minimum and that's only going to happen if there is some miracle, drastic improvement in making cameras smaller. the goproHD IS their new camera. the older one is not HD. they also just put out a 960 model that doesn't have all the features of the HD model. it's a cheaper less functional version. the only real knocks against the gopro now is it's a fish eye lens amd no zoom. but remember its an "Action Sports Camera" that is wearable. you can't 'wear' any of those other cameras unless you have a huge roll of duct tape. and the fisheye lens allows you a much greater field of view than a regular lens. I will gladly put my gopro up against ANY other camera in ANY kind of a test, including flinging it out a car window at 80 miles an hour, freezing it solid, leaving it at the bottom of the river for 5 or more hours, etc. Fish On Kayak Adventures, LLC. There's a fine line between fishing and sitting there looking stupid.
Trout Commander Posted February 1, 2011 Posted February 1, 2011 where do you get that gopro is coming out with a new camera? That's not part of their plan, for at least the next 2 or 3 years minimum I never said that they were? I asked if Eric thought it would be a good idea until they came out with a new one. But you gotta think they will come up with one sometime between now and forever, right?? and that's only going to happen if there is some miracle, drastic improvement in making cameras smaller. Lots of other companies make cameras that are much smaller, so its feasible that in their next release GoPro will catch up with the times. the only real knocks against the gopro now is it's a fish eye lens amd no zoom. and it's lack of resolution as previously covered, its bulkiness and having to pay an extra 80 bucks for an lcd. you can't 'wear' any of those other cameras unless you have a huge roll of duct tape. or one of these: http://photojojo.com...t-camera-mount/ or this: http://www.google.co...ed=0CEoQ8wIwAg# or your kayak could wear any of these: http://www.google.co...ved=0CC8QrQQwAw or: http://www.radioshac...ductId=10822409 or any of these listed right along with GoPro stuff even: http://www.nextag.co...nt/compare-html and that is only what the first 3 seconds of google searching turned up. Who knows what you could find if you spent a whole minute on it. I have spent most of my money on fly fishing and beer. The rest I just wasted.
