Trout Commander Posted January 28, 2011 Posted January 28, 2011 Here they are gang. Something smells funny, and it's not just the Amish. My take from this is that 100% MDC doesn't care if mtn lions get killed. Period. They do not care about these cats. End of story. In the documents it states that ONE of ELEVEN hunters that shot stated he was "scared" not afraid for his life, just "scared". The previous killing eagle because you were in fear of losing you life analogy in the other thread was a slippery slope theory at best, but now that the precedence has been set that you only have to be "scared" to kill a protected animal, where will it really stop? Additionally, the second shooter of the lion NEVER states he was even scared. He heard someone "shoot and yell "lion"". At the lion's passing of shooter #2, which was a stated 20-30 yards away, the lion had OBVIOUSLY chosen flight over fight. At thiat point it is pretty apparent that shooter #2 was trying to kill the lion just to kill it. (I understand how even after the lion chose flight someone could logically be afraid for their life, but it would be a completely different circumstance of the lion running straight towards you - not parallel to you at a distance of 20-30 yards. It is also interesting to me that there was a report made to the land owner (and shooter #2) of a lion sighting in the fall -> they go on a predator drive in the winter -> shooter one "yelled out lion" on sight -> 11 hunters gang up and shoot the lion. ...But it was self defense . flytyer57 Posted January 28, 2011 Posted January 28, 2011 With that many people in a group, you can bet that lion was more scared than that group of hunters. And rightfully so. There's a fine line between fishing and sitting there looking stupid.
Wayne SW/MO Posted January 28, 2011 Posted January 28, 2011 They should rethink the precedent they're setting, a bull elk in rut is probably more dangerous than a cougar in flight. Today's release is tomorrows gift to another fisherman.
ColdWaterFshr Posted January 28, 2011 Posted January 28, 2011 Check out the beard on that one dude. What a bizarre report. Couple things: 1) I didn't know Amish hunted or owned guns. 2) I don't think its likely that you could get that many amish to go along with a lie, so while I think their story is completely true, I don't think the agent asked the right question, and that is, were they all out there intentionally hunting for this mountain lion which they knew was in the area? 3) How do you ticket the Amish?
Stoneroller Posted January 28, 2011 Posted January 28, 2011 MDC says Elk season should open in about 4 years... probably about the same time jimbo and ned "thin the herd" of mt lions that were "comin right for us"... who can we vote out of office to fix what is obviously wrong at MDC? They make garage doors but don't own cars or have electricity. "Life has become immeasurably better since I have been forced to stop taking it seriously." — Hunter S. Thompson

taxidermist Posted January 29, 2011 Posted January 29, 2011 Yes they have guns and they kill everything that moves on one of their drives, bucks does it dont matter. Also due to their religion they dont get tickets nor do they normally pay one f they do get one. Most of their Bishops allow them to use electricity to make windows and doors for resale. One company here use to buy a lot of sawed lumber from Amish at Windsor MO.

One Amish furniture maker near Arthur Illinois decided it would be a good idea to bury a bunch of 55 gallon steel drums of benzene down by the Kaskaskia River. Once they started rotting and leaking into the river, his hiney ended up in jail. It may be a virtue to be simple (and hats off to them for that), but it is always a vice to be stupid.
Quillback Posted January 29, 2011 Posted January 29, 2011 Anyone notice that they are using #4 shot for their predator "Shoot". You have to be really close to a coyote or bigger predator to get a clean kill with #4. Nothing humane or ethical about what these guys are doing, how many times did they have to shoot the cougar to finally kill it? I'm a hunter myself and I have no problem with people killing predators, but at least try and put them down quickly. I'm sure they are using #4 shot too lessen the chances of shooting someone else in the group, but good grief, if you don't feel a little twinge of conscience when slowly killing an animal, you're a pretty cold blooded son of a gun.
