My wife was thinking of going back to school.Everyone was trying to get her to go into the Health Field.Like I told her the market is going to be flooded with so many LPNs and and RNs I think computers is where it is at.

Well just heard on the News where Borders is laying off thousands because so many are getting via Internet.Sorry they are losing their Jobs but look how many others are losing their Jobs because of the Internet.I look at my wife and say,"Hey what did I tell you?".

So she is taking Computer Internet Science.

I've been in the IT field now for 18 years. If she is open...tell her to focus on IT security. That is where the money and jobs will be for a while. Good luck.

They said 20 years ago that Nursing field would be flooded. It has not happened yet and a good nurse RN can always find a job! I know one very very well, she has travel nursed and made some serious money and always able to get a job at her hometown hospital when she is not traveling.

On the other hand it takes a special giving type of person to be a nurse!

My sister is an RN and has encountered the same. A whole menu of locales with sometimes comparatively lucrative pay available for her choosing and a sure thing for a job when she returns. Also my sister in law has been out of high school for a year and had no trouble getting a job in the rural area we are from. Also she moved to Springfield with us to continue schooling for last weekend and already has a job that she is interviewing for as I type this. The interview is basically a formality as she is scheduled to start orientation on Thursday already. The jobs are definitely there and I don't see people ceasing to become sick or injured anytime soon. Future job market flooding may be a valid concern though. only time will tell.

At the same time I do not see the IT field being a bad or worse choice at all. You are correct that the internet is here to stay and more and more of the markets that haven't moved in that trend are and will. Seems like it would be less emotionally demanding etc. as well.

I have spent most of my money on fly fishing and beer. The rest I just wasted.

Well my wife has been in the Health Field for years.By the time she would get through school her age would really hurt her.She has her own Internet Advertising Business and looking to expand.

The last Health Field job she had was Home Nursing. She was driving many miles and putting in 100+ hours a week. They didn't have to pay OT.It got to where Gas got too high to justify doing it.

We are living longer. I went to my wifes 50th Class reunion very few of her classmates have passed away thanks to better health care. People our age do not consider ourselves old anymore thanks to modern medicine. Shortly before I left Arkansas in 2007, Baptist hospital in Little Rock was offering free nursing school if you would agree to work for them for a number of years.

FYI, don't make the sport we have a passion about try be our field of employment. I'm guessing for every salaried position MDC has there are probably a couple hundred applicants.

My wife, son and DIL are in it and none of them have a problems getting a job, but more important a good paying job with benefits. RN's make from $20+ to $40 and most work 3-12's.

The Technology field... I have been in the I/T field now for 24 years. I have held all positions from Help Desk to Trainer to Department Manager (with 34 people working for me) and everything in between. During that time I have been laid off 4 time and between each time has take anywhere from 3 months to 2 years to find another I/T job. So are the jobs out there? Sure they are, but finding one that matches your skill set, expertise and background is the difficult part.

In my last two positions when I had to interview people, the company would not even look at people with less than 5 – 7 years of experience and college did not count.

The internet job boards are filled with open positions mainly through head hunters. On an average 50% of these open positions are non-existent. The recruiting firms are looking for resumes to fill their database just to keep just in case they receive a call from a client so they can fill the spot before another recruiting firm fills it.

I also have to agree if there is a market in I/T look in the security side of the house or the mobile devices.

darn I hate computers, it is a job that pays the bills, but it is not a career.
