Hey guys I was wondering if you can still over night at Tanvat, if not are there any places close that I could crash in my car for a night and not have to pay.

TFM,

I think your best bets are either Tan Vat or Baptist Camp. I have stayed in my SUV a few times at TV. Just make sure you keep as much in the vehicle as possible.

Eagles Park is practically across the road. http://eaglespark.com/

A ranger told a buddy of mine that sleeping/camping in your car at Tan Vat and Baptist is a no-no and that they'd be cracking down. I'm not saying I wouldn't try it, but just a heads up.

Cedargrove has campsites and I doubt if there are any fees this time of year. Parker has a spot or two.

They probably don't want you sleeping in your car or truck because there is a campground close by that they want you to spend your money in at the state park. We used to sleep in the back of my camper shell on my P/U at Mark Twain Lake until the campgrounds opened up and then they started to issue warnings at first. If they caught you again it would be a ticket on your windshield when you came out of the woods.

Personally I think it is BS as long as you are not in the way and not making a mess. People camp out on the sand bars all the time. So why is this any different??

I thought I had seen a sign last year while I was down there saying no over night parking but I figured I would ask, I will be fishing most of the night so it is going to be more of a crash spot for a few hours of slepp before I head home.

Both Tan Vat & Baptist are posted as no camping...so is Welch...you can camp at Cedargrove for a fee, or Parker for free. No individual camping at Akers. You can always hike a tent up or down from Baptist...a couple good spots there....

Eagle's Park & Ozark Mountain Ranch are cheap in comparisson to Montauk.....less than $10....I'd stay at one of those, or go camp on the river. Cheers.
