I'm looking at buying a new pair of fishing sunglasses. I know the costa 580's have become the standard, but I have been looking into Oakley straight jackets in either the shallow blue lenses or black iridium...Any thoughts?

Just make sure they are polarized. The majority of Oakley's are not. I have a bunch of Oakleys, and they are good sunglasses, but I use some perscription polarized WileyX glasses for fishing. They are nice because they have a foam insert on the back side I use in the winter that blocks out the cold wind that always seems to be blowing in the winter months around here.

I don't have any experiance with Coasta sunglasses but I do with Oakley, I wouldn't trade them for the world and if you buy them from Bass Pro I know they carry them in polerized.

I know this is kinda not cool but i have some brand new Smith Riversides for sale in case you liked that style- 85 bucks. Theyre polarized.

I have the Half Jacket XLJ with the black irridium lenses. I have been looking at the 580's myself, but I sure like the Oakleys. Very good for site fishing and the interchangeable lenses are nice for when I jump on the lake.

Zack, I sure do prefer copper colored lenses for stream fishing. I am very pleased with tri optics from Orvis.

I've been messing with the Costas a little bit. I've tried a bunch of different lenses, and honestly, I can't really tell the difference between the glass 400s and the glass 580s. I think the 580s just provide superior UV protection, but unless we're fishing on planet Krypton, I'm not sure I can justify the extra expense. Both lenses are crystal clear and soothing to the eyes. I haven't had them on a river, so maybe it would make a difference there...maybe not.

There is a noticable difference between the CR-39 poly lenses and the glass, though.

I had to double check....mine are the copper tinted.....just cant figure out exactly which lense. Fire or Copper.

I have looked at the Orvis. I have a sour spot after my last pair of orvis shattered and there wasnt a company I could order replacement lenses from.
